My family and I are partial to duck, and this restaurant was a very special find. Honestly, can't wait to go back to Lille for more!!! Before I get into the food, a quick note. We were sitting inside the restaurant, even though they have a lovely sitting area outside and generally we prefer that, so I am not even sure how we ended up indoors. However, it was very lucky. Turns out that Monday is a garbage day on this street and if they are consistent in their schedules, they will come to pick up the trash sometime between 6:30 and 7:30 pm, which means that while you are eating dinner, giant, rattling garbage trucks drive by and smelly bags of rubbish are thrown in them…. Right next to you… anyway, no need to be so dramatic, but I though I would mention it. Now, the FOOD. To begin with, we ordered a couple of drinks, mojitos and a glass of white wine. The house wine was really good and mojitos as well, though pretty standard. Every dish was phenomenal! When we travel we eat out most days, and we tend to order the true and tried dishes that we generally enjoy. I LOVED every duck dish we had at Le Domaine de Chavagnac. Also, you have to know that even though France is known for foie gras, finding a restaurant that serves real fried duck liver is a challenge, and even good cold foie gras is rare. However, here both were wonderfully delicious, generously served and beautifully presented. Salad that accompanied both was very fresh, the caramelized apples with the fried foie gras were delicious, and the jam and little jelly bits with the cold one were delightful. For the main course we tried Duck breast with thyme and honey. That dish is brought to the table sizzling, with the thyme leaves set on fire, which is very original, and definitely edible. Most essentially, it was PERFECTLY cooked. I don’t know how many times we have ordered a duck breast asking for it to be medium rare, to end up with something ranging from medium to medium well (in other words dry). Here it was AMAZING, perfect temperature, red and juicy, so tender. I am literally salivating thinking on it as I write this review. Fried home potatoes that came with the dish were delicious too. Duck Aiguillettes with figs was a very interesting dish. It was a sort of roulade stuffed with dried figs. It was very tasty and original. Finally, Parmentier de Canard was basically a shepherd’s pie, with diced duck and mushrooms, covered with mashed potatoes and baked. It was very good, and even though it was a simpler dish, it was still very appetizing. Needless to say, there was no room for dessert… The meal was amazing. The service was courteous and prompt. We spent a lovely evening and ate a fantastic meal. By the way the whole spread was about 103 euro. What a treat!
Weekend in Lille and decided to have dinner in the Old Town, we didn't have reservation and were trusting our luck to find a place to have dinner, and luckily enough Le Domaine de Chavagnac had a free table which was perfect locate outside. We had a leisure 3 course dinner, they don't have English Menus, but the waitress was very friendly and explained each dish and made easy for us to choose. Everything was amazing we had Ribeye, Duck leg and Welsh the cheese on top delicious and everything were perfectly cooked We will definitely going back next time visiting Lille. Thank you for a memorable night in Lille.
Cassoulet, confit de canard and foie gras. If you are yearning for some classical southern French country cooking this is the place. Honest cooking with nothing fancy big portions and great value.
Confit de Canard. No need to look any further. It is just perfect. Really nice local restaurant full of life and people. Friendly (and English speaking) staff serving excellent food and wine. If we ever end up again in Lille we will make sure to drop by again. My biggest regret is not to buy foie gras jars to take home as it just look delicious.Must be the best ever duck restaurant I have ever been to.
