I 'm not going to lie, when I first found out that my random hot pick on hot wire was Hotel Chez Swann , I almost wanted to crawl into a hole and cry. I was planning a surprise 30th birthday for my hubs and the photos made it look like this was a medieval nightmare- but it was 100% the opposite. I further checked reviews online *multiple websites* and I noticed the high reviews. I decided to put aside my hate for shaggy green carpet and just go with the flow (not like I had an option as I was unable to cancel or change my reservation . I got upgraded to a junior suite as soon as I called them to arrange champagne service- which was right off the bat such a nice gesture (free of charge! We stayed at the hotel for a total of 3 nights and EVERYTHING was amazing. The photos, 100% do not do the hotel justice- they really need to improve on that because that was something that steered me away initially. The lobby is super funky but not tacky (in my opinion . It 's a boutique style hotel so there aren 't 120192 floors and an elevator wait of more than 5 minutes- PLUS this hotel is close to a lot of nightlife and restaurants! Our junior suite was A M A Z I N G. Probably the second biggest hotel room I have ever been in. The bathroom was one of my favourite features (too bad I couldn 't sleep there . It had a double sink which is great, perfect lighting and chic tiles. The stand up shower was large enough to fit 10 adults- seriously. Not sure if that 's your style of partying LOL but if it is, there you have it. It had 2 oversized shower heads on opposite sides which is great because I never had to wait for the SHOWER! The shower head is advanced so it you have the option of where you want the water to shoot from (BONUS .It also is a glass wall that you can see into the living room, but if showering with a view is not your thing- have no fear, there is a curtain. The lighting and decor was minimal. They had an antique style love seat with a unique look wooden table and a TV mounted on the wall as part of the living area . It also had an armoire, two wooden night tables, a HUGE california king bed, a bench, the desk, another TV mounted in front of the bed and a bay style window. My second favourite thing of the room was the bed (the size, the comfort, the sheets- everything was great . My third favourite thing was the bay window area. It was masssssssive. I cannot put into words how large the windows are in the junior suite and the bench area. They had two types of curtains too (shear and black out- depending on what you wanted . The staff was very friendly and accommodating, they also made great restaurant recommendations. The two downfalls and why they are not getting 5 stars are: 1. Storage. I get the minimal look they are going for but some of us like to unpack our shit when we get to a hotel, they could have added a second armoire or replace it with a much larger one. Space is not an issue. 2. The continental breakfast. Lord Jesus they really want us to starve. I get the term continental but it was SLIM pickings when it came to the breakfast. They had bread, croissants (freshly baked and delicious , two types of juice, oranges, 1 type of ceral and yogurt. Again I understand the term continental but I was wanting so much more from them. Perhaps more juice and fruit options (there is step number one and more baked goods. Even a selection of muffins or something. Anyways- I like to experiment new hotels every time I go to Montreal but I would have no issues coming back here :
My husband and I stayed at this hotel on our most recent trip to Montreal. It 's a cute little non-traditional boutique hotel. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. We booked through Hotwire, so got our (standard room for $129/night. Their regular price is about $275/night for a standard room (or what they call a Boudoir-Double . The Hotel Chez Swann is right next to what was the Mount Stephen Club (which is being restored and turned into a hotel at the time of the writing of this review . It is attached to Le Pois Penché and the rooms are on top of the restaurant. The decor is very different from traditional hotels. It 's funky with shag carpets and the side tables are blocks of wood on casters. The hallways are darkish with lighting near the floor, like in movie theatres. They also have a peek-a-boo shower where one person can lie on the bed and watch the other person take a shower through the glass wall that separates the bedroom and the bathroom. Perfect for a romantic tryst ; Kind of weird if you are sharing the room with a friend o_O There are curtains though, so you can close the curtains for showering privacy, lol. The showers are awesome. They have 2 shower installments which are perpendicular to each other, each with an overhead shower, a column with jets that squirt water at your abdomen and a hand-held shower that attaches lower on the column near your legs. So you can have water squirting at you everywhere. Also, 2 people can shower at the same time in the same shower and not get cold ; They have some nice touches here, like they give you free disposable slippers. They also give you 2 free bottles of water every day. The toiletries are from Bella Pella, a local company that hand makes soaps and body care products. There is a skylight over the bed, but it is covered with curtains so it doesn 't get too bright. You also get complimentary continental breakfast which is served from 7am-10am in Le Pois Penché. The restaurant is closed to other customers during that time. The breakfast is fairly simple, with baguettes, butter croissants, chocolate croissants, muffins, 2 types of cereals, and yogurt. They have butter and 2 types of jams as spreads. They have coffee, tea, apple juice and orange juice as beverages. The selection was the exact same the 2 days we were there. The croissants were fresh and so flaky. I could have eaten a dozen (but I didn 't . The cranberry muffins were really tasty. They were sweet and tart and were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. They had a strawberry almond jam that was heavenly. They have an exercise room which is just some stationary bikes in front of a TV. I didn 't use it because when I 'm on vacation, I don 't workout, haha. WiFi was fast and reliable. The place is not that sound proof, so you can hear people in the hallways, but it wasn 't too noisy when we were there. There are only 2 floors and I think about 20 rooms. We took the train in so didn 't have a car, so I don 't know what the parking situation is like. The hotel is also attached to a place called Liquid Nutrition that serves smoothies. Staff were very nice. I would stay here again if we got a good rate.
Overall a very comfortable stay! Stayed one night, got a free upgrade to a larger bed, thanks to the very nice staff. Rooms were well appointed, with all the things one might need. The bed was cosy and comfortable, and clean! The bathrooms were nice, the double showers was neat but only one really worked. We made it for the light breakfast. Very nice. Would stay here again.
I chose this hotel by chance, and it turned out to be incredible. Its location is perfect, just a short walk from the Peel Metro station and Parc du Mont-Royal. The hotel is beautiful, cozy, and truly one-of-a-kind. With its artistic charm and distinctive style, I can't imagine staying anywhere else when I return to Montréal. The staff was exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, and I encountered no problems during my stay. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Montréal. Thank you, Hotel Chez Swann, for your wonderful hospitality!
