Contribuiți la feedbackOn a weekday, it looked empty from the outside but was quite busy inside (not full because it's big, catering for occasions with its 3-4 separate rooms). Customers were locals, including a couple of bigger tables, but not noisy. Menu included a variety of options: meat, fish, escargots, kids menu, even pizza (which I would normally consider as a bad sign in a non-Italian restaurant, but didn't spoil it in this case). We tried escargots and salmon as starters, and steak as main course, all delicious. Steak came with asparagus, green beans, lettuce, sauce (choice between two) and potato side (choice between two types), all tasty and well presented. For dessert we tried profiteroles and creme brulee. Profiteroles were average, the biscuit a bit stale, filled with vanilla icecream and covered with chocolate sauce. Creme brulee was better, with an orange aroma. With half bottle of house red and water, bill came at 65 euros. Venue airy and clean. Would go back.
We have visited the Brasserie de L'Abbaye twice and had excellent lunches on both occasions. There are so many good eateries south of Calais that the average tourist, speding south on the motorways, misses. Take virtually any road south of Guines and you are rewarded with pleasant rolling countryside and attractive villages. Standing on the lop-sided square in Licques, looking at the abbey buildings and the wooded hillsides beyond, one could be in deepest Burgundy rather than 25 minutes form the channel. The €18 three course menu is excellent value. We had salmon in lobster sauce starters and then my wife chose turkey savoyarde while I had andouillette, both accompanied with an attractive range of vegetabales. There is a wide choice of desserts and we both enjoyed the fromage frais with summer berries. Wine is often limited to a bottle choice in the north of France and is often not cheap. The Brasserie de L'Abbaye offers a good wine list, but also wine by the pichet. We had a very passable 50cl of rose for €6.50. All in all a very good meal - and the only reason I hold back from giving this 5/5 is that the menu is unchanging - we recognised the same dishes from a visit almost a year previously. However for the occasional visit this offers no real discouragement.
This restaurant seems to specialise in pizza but also had a choice of three starters and mains off the specials board. Our kids chose pizza (no surprises) and my wife and I ordered from the specials. The food was great - full of flavour but quite rich. If you're eating here with young children then it might be a good idea to steer them towards the children's menu or the plainer pizza options. All in all, though, a good meal and a pleasant night out.
We discover the meal formula show. good meal, a high quality show hour and a dance step after the meal. very effective and smiling staff. only flat, the huge tabs (happyly we were next to friendly people) and the room that would deserve a warmer decor. However, I recommend this establishment where you spend a pleasant relaxing moment.
