We were there on a quiet day and were given a very friendly welcome and excellent service by la patronne herself. The cooking was very good, though much different from the ancien régime; with some novel touches. Ris de veau aux morilles was more delicate, less dark and rich, than the encien regime's version, in a more contemporary portion size. Subjectively, I would say that Pascal’s main courses are very professional and textbook, while his puddings are more from the heart: the opposite way round from his predecessor. My wife had a delicate filo parcel of figs and grapes, while I chose truffin à la griotte sur sa dacquoise, delightful and indulgent. We understand that they are renovating the place themselves while keeping it open—a mammoth undertaking—and we wish them the success that they clearly deserve.
We went for dinner, didn 't have to book, I think there were four tables at peak time not a good sign. The service was good, and we went for the set meal, three courses for 35 euros, with a 'cocktail ', that appeared to be flavoured wine (with kirsch? which was unexceptional. The choice on the menu for each course was good, four or so choices and I had the foie gras, followed by monkfish and then something for dessert. The whole event was ok, the surroundings are faded grandeur and traditional in the extreme and food was ok, nothing special at all, just ok. The cost with a bottle of wine between four of us was 200 euros including tip. It could have been fabulous but wasn 't I won 't goagain because there are several other places in the area.
On a bike ride, we have seen the cards and menus that are all very attractive and have entered around 8 pm: good reception, a chateau room that is a little outdated but cozy, we have taken the local menu at 35€, excellent dishes in good servings and a gourmet presentation. only flat, canteen carafes and small service couacs by the 2 young servers very kind to stay (the champagne requested after choosing the menu was not brought before the mouths and then the entrance. good we asked for dessert! product breaks announced after choosing who agacent, a negative hallucinating presentation of the proposed cheeses, an error of destination of plates ...) nothing bad in sum, we smiled ! this restaurant is to advise and excellent value for money, despite the proximity of the hyper tourist village of ropes : ALLEZ-Y !
This establishment has been recommended by our hosts and has also been aware of the tripadvisor reviews before we go there the amount is at the rendezvous but there is disappointment about the level of preparation of these good ingredients
Of course, the hotel would deserve a little painting. but he has an undeniable charm. But run for his kitchen. I had discussed with the chief in the morning to find out if the calf ris would be available, they were. Inside, the roasted foie gras in a slice of ham from country is a delight. cooked just as you need, delicately placed on a slice of bread, it tastes impeccablely. it was followed by a plate of calfskin to the bits. If the recipe is simple and known, the interpretation of izard claude is here masterful. A pure treat. Then, having found in the few bottles of laubade a vintage 67, we finished this meal not in the sweetness of the evening. For information, the 2 glasses of this alcohol were charged to us 12€. A gift. A very good service from a former boss, boss friend, who likes to tell stories. and listen to it.
