Wetherby Whaler - Leeds

Food was good, great serving size, had a very homely feel, extremely filling. on the other hand our waiter was rude and unapproachable believe his name began with ‘M’ possibly mason. other than that it was a lovely atmosphere

The food was very nice and hot. Mushy peas were substituted with marrowfat peas but not mentioned by the server. The pianist made the occasion really. Young team members were stood chatting for most of the time during our visit. Difficult to attract their attention for additional drinks, tartare sauce and then the bill, so we just got up and went to the counter to,pay and leave. The mature team member worked her socks off, racing around clearing tables and serving.

Going to the Whaler has long been a family tradition. We have enjoyed the senior special for quite a few years now. Today, however, we were very disappointed. We had to wait a long time to get our pots of tea. There was no bread and butter. The fish was good but the chips not great, and we all left some. The desert was half warmed up, congealed custard and luke warm pudding. And the milk jug was filthy, stained with patches of sauce. The price had gone up and that is understandable. Every restaurant has had to increase its prices. Unfortunately the Whaler has also cut back on its product. I couldn’t recommend it.

This place has gone totally downhill. We went as a party of 7 for a family reunion with guests. A very little NG wait for the food to be served. Soup half a tin......horrible taste. Large fish and chips was large but the batter was out facing and the chips has to be seen to be believed. Small scraps of potato,not warm and peas were cold and claggy. It was embarrassing for our visitors when they had so much looked forward to it. Everyone left half of their food. The drinks were extortiate and despite asking for a.jug of water twice it never arrived. We also asked for more hot water for the tea....but it never came. Cost over £135......total rip off. No one asked if everything was alright andq I refused to pay the discretionary 10% charge for service A very , very big disappointment Will not be going there again.

Had an absolutely delicious meal here with fantastic service from Connor (helping out from the Pusey branch). Very quick service, food cooked to order and very tasty. Our only complaint is that the Brandy snap dream has been taken off the menu . Had the trifle instead but was a poor second although quite nice. Also surprised that bread and butter is now no longer included.
