Contribuiți la feedbackI visited this restaurant about 10 years ago when it was in a different location and I sought it out for a revisit. It was amazing then and tonight it was just as good if not better. My starter, king prawn tikka was a little spicier than I thought it would be, but nevertheless it was delicious. I had lamb biryani as a main course and it was perfect. The service was excellent. The restaurant was lively even for a Monday evening which shows how good it is. I hope its not another 10 years before I visit again!
After years of anticipation, I finally had the opportunity to dine at an Akbars restaurant located just steps away from my office. I convinced some friends who were notoriously indecisive to try something new, and we embarked on a culinary adventure. Akbars did not disappoint. The enticing aroma as we approached the restaurant made my stomach grumble, and the interior left us all in awe. The Indian cuisine was some of the best I have had in a long time. We were seated in what seemed to be the bar area, which offered a nice view of the main dining area below. The menu was diverse, yet manageable, although the physical menus were a bit cumbersome for our group at a small table. We were promptly served poppadoms and a pickle tray to enjoy while we perused the menu. The portions of our starters were unexpectedly large, and my murgh chicken wings were cooked to perfection with a flavorful sauce. For my main course, I opted for the murgh tikka mekhani, which featured high-quality chicken in a rich sauce. Despite skipping rice in favor of spinach to make a healthier choice, the portions were generous. The naan ordered by my companions was sizable and delicious. The service was efficient and friendly, and the prices were reasonable at £20 per person for a starter, main course, rice or side dish, and a shared naan. If you love Indian cuisine and find yourself in the city, I highly recommend visiting Akbars. Keep in mind that they are very popular and do not take reservations, but they do offer takeaway options.
This restaurant is terrible, with rude staff, mediocre food, and employees who pressure customers for tips and rush them out of their seats. It lacks any sense of class.
The restaurant was very busy on a Wednesday night. The service was quick and attentive, with good attention to detail. The food was excellent, and the prices were reasonable. They provided plenty of popadoms upfront, and the naan breads were huge, so it's best to share. I would definitely go back when I am in Leeds again. I found the place based on a recommendation from a local colleague and a friend from far away. It was a great night out.
I used to travel to Leeds over 5 years ago for work when I was based out of NY and always tried to have dinner at Akbar's each time. I didn't realise it turned into some huge chain of restaurants up north! I'm glad I read a few reviews before going. This was my first time at the one on Greek st as I've only been to the one on Eastgate before. Decor is nice but dunno why it reminds me of a casino esque place. I took the advice of the others and didn't get a starter. I went straight for a main and an order of garlic naan. I have to say it reminded me of American size portions (I suppose they're properly Yorkshire size? . It took ages for me to decide but went with the chickpea and paneer balti and it was amazing! I wish I can find a place in London that would offer the same dish. Now that regular naan, when it arrived at my table, the look on my face must have said it all because the waiter immediately said this is the normal size. Now, they have family naan which could probably feed about 4 5 people. Regular naan should be renamed to couple's naan because it's way too big one 1 person!
