I am pretty perplexed how this place has 3.5 stars right now. The place was understaffed and waited so long for everything. You could tell our waiter was busy because he kept saying how exhausted and busy they were. We ordered coffees which took 15 minutes to get after ordering and I was not a big fan of the taste of my coffee and dish which was the lumberjack. The only thing I did like was my biscuit, which they forgot to give me and I had to remind them. I had to go to other peoples tables for butter and jam. Thumbs down.
Definitely a buy! Came with six dudes for breakfast: good selection, good service, great portions. Best in Leadville.
The food is surprising good! My 3 egg omelette had to be more like six. Here you experience a taste of Leadville. Tiny town at 10,000+ feet elev. Early 1900's place, mellow entrance. But a myriad of strange different looking rooms. You have to see the 100 FT well they uncovered in the back room. The bathroom looks like my grandma's old house with a washer/dryer. The kids/servers lead interesting lives.
I ate at the Shanty several times while in Leadville, but only for breakfast. The service here is fantastic, especially for a small town restaurant where employees are generally more relaxed . Here, they were attentive and very friendly. They made every effort to get us what we ordered, even if they weren 't listed on the menu (yes, we are the type who order what we want, not off the menu). The food is very good and they give plenty of it. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the coffee was fresh. I would recommend this place to anyone who is passing through town as a true taste of Leadville.
