Contribuiți la feedbackUnder the same owners, Restaurant de l’Abbaye transformed into Le Comptoir de l’Abbaye after the Covid Pandemic. Now, the restaurant (which opens April November) offers a great mixture of local cuisine with the freshest regional season products in addition to a boutique in which local produce crafts are sold, along with wines from the region sold at very reasonable prices. The menu at Le Comptoir is excellent there are a wide choice of dishes, many of which you can share, there’s always a hot dish of the day and a tartine of the day, plus a great selection of home made desserts. A reservation is a must as tables are limited (open both lunch dinner Tuesday Saturday plus Sunday lunch). Cadouin itself is a wonderful village with both the Abbaye and the Cloisters a must see (the abbaye is free to enter, there is a small charge for the Cloisters however if you keep your ticket, this gives you free entry into the Chateau de Biron (20 mins away, or vice versa with your ticket rompt he chateau).
Superb meal garlic soup was a wonderful extra. Highly recommend, will definitely return. Booking essential.
I am a naturally positive person and I do not like posting negative reviews but I really want to ensure that others do not waste their money as we did recently. We live locally to this restaurant but had not eaten there so we booked a terrace table for a Sunday night during August. On arrival, we were told that our table was indoors and when I insisted that I had booked for the terrace, the waitress clearly didn't believe me but managed to seat us outdoors anyway. We sat for 25 minutes before we were our order was taken during which time we were not even given a glass of water never mind being offered a drink. After 1 hour 20 mins, I had to call a waiter over to explain that all we had eaten was some peanuts. My garlic soup was then brought out a full 1hr 30 mins after we arrived. This was followed by a dry and tasteless plate of confit du canard and some potatoes. The apple tart dessert was OK. The whole experience cost us €75 and, to be honest, was much less satisfying and enjoyable than the €12 takeaway pizza which we had eaten in our garden the night before. Such a lovely setting but we will DEFINITELY not be back.
Our second visit did not disappoint. A marvellous setting for summer alfresco dining in the summer, overlooking the joyous sights of Cadouin. Lovely, welcoming service and very good quality, if unremarkable, food (plenty of it too! . The whole dining package lends itself to a memorable experience! We shall return!
I booked at short notice, on the day of visiting. On arrival, the restaurant was full, which was good to see. The service was good despite the restaurant being busy. We had a very nice meal, choosing the €24 menu. The portion sizes are good. The complimentary bowl of Tourain with a 'menu ' meal is always very nice. It smells strongly of garlic, but there is no noticeable aftertaste. €63 for two including drinks is good for such a tasty meal.
