Capanna Gigliola - Laveno-mombello

The Gigliola restaurant is situated on a beautiful spot high up in the mountains in a tiny village called Vararo. The surroundings are stunning and the hospitality genuine. The family that has run the place has done so for many years and they always bring you a high standard of genuin italian food with elements from the surroundings mountains. It doesn't get more northern italian than this! Don't miss out!

Restaurant above Laveno with a terrace overlooking Lake Maggiore. You can reach either by foot from a path or from Laveno to the Sasso del Ferro or by car. The terrace offers a unique view. The restaurant is very warm and welcoming, and friendly staff is available. In summer (some years ago) I also ate some ice cream made with very good goat milk.

The restaurant Gigliola at about 750m altitude, in the hamlet of Casere di Laveno, overlooks the magnificent balcony of Lake Maggiore, an ideal place for a refreshment after trekking through the different mountain paths that cross it but also for dinners maybe in front of the fireplace, in the beautiful tavern in stone and wood. Home cooking is not trivial and very well-kept, with appetizers of cured meats, cheeses, subli and pickles of own production, excellent homemade pasta (we enjoyed tagliatelle with chestnut flour, chestnut and walnut), polenta with game, porcini mushrooms, grilled, jams and desserts always of their production. Good value for money. Generous portions.
