The Boathouse At River Islands

It has a nice setting, the staff was very pleasant, and the atmosphere was better than the mostly unseasoned food. I was visiting relatives who live nearby. I had to send my first NY steak back, as it was well done and not medium rare as requested. Also, the first steak did not have a nice sear on it. The second steak had a nice sear but was undercooked (very rare) as I made my way into the center of the steak. There was a bit of a rub applied, but I had to sprinkle some salt to make it more savory and make use of the flavorful chimichurri and horseradish. In general, my steak was fairly average and underwhelming. When I make them at home they’re bangin delicious. For sides, I ordered house-made coleslaw which was not sweet, nor tangy, and it certainly was not savory. The texture was nice, though. I tasted my wife’s ribeye which was also cooked too rare, and was only barely warm. Her broccolini side wasn’t seasoned at all, although cooked correctly, not under or over. The house-made red potato salad for her side was nice and tangy, and the loaded potato salad side I got was savory and buttery, with some cheddar cheese and bacon bits on top. Perhaps the other entrees are more flavorful, like the pastas and fish dishes? Unfortunately, I may not be back for some time, so I’ll likely never know. This place is a great spot next to a large park and is family friendly. Maybe just choose other menu options besides the steak. Parking: Parking in their main lot is limited, but has ample accessible spaces, while overflow parking can be found on nearby neighborhood streets. Kid-friendliness: Very family friendly with parks, play structures, and even sand volleyball next door. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a wheelchair ramp directly from the accessible parking area to the large main deck and front door of the restaurant.
