Contribuiți la feedbackDo not make the mistake of booking this venue for your Christmas dinner/social/party. As a university society we booked the Borough for our annual Christmas meal. Initially it was advertised as a 'buffet ', which it is not. Each person was limited to two sandwiches, which I would not feed to my dog. The bread was soggy and the beef really chewy, not to mention all the food was cold. Although the initial price of £10.50 per person was agreed (which is excluding drinks), the manager attempted to charge us an extra £160 for vegan sandwiches they chose to make and nobody requested. This extra charge was not disclosed prior to booking. When I attempted to dispute the charge the woman serving us refused to deal with me. The manager was extremely rude and had terrible customer service skills. I would not recommend.
My first impression of The Borough in Lancaster was not the best, but both the establishment and the city exceeded my expectations. The staff was efficient and courteous, guiding us to our room on the third floor and explaining the key and access information. The room was cozy and perfect for our two-night stay, and the bathroom was amazing - the bath was my favorite part. I highly recommend this hotel just for the bath alone. Breakfast was included and had great options for both vegetarians and vegans. I tried the vegan breakfast and it was delicious and more than I could eat. The staff was polite and deserving of compliments. I would rate the hotel 5 stars and Lancaster 4 stars, as I believe the city has even more potential. I never write negative reviews, so if I visited and didn't review, it wasn't a good experience.
A great hotel with comfortable rooms and bathrooms. Only issue with staying in a pub however is the cellar cooling systems. If we couldn't hear that intermittently throughout the night it would have been 5. Breakfast was very nice and service was great. Location is fantastic for walking into Lancaster and stumbling back after a few drinks!
My friends and I had booked a big table to share breakfast together on the morning of Pride in Lancaster. When we started towards our table, we were told that dogs weren’t allowed in the “restaurant” which is the room adjoining the bar and no fancier than the bar where dogs are allowed. I responded with surprise as Lancaster is an incredibly dog friendly city. The server simply confirmed her previous statement and walked off. She didn’t offer to find us a nice seat somewhere else, she wasn’t apologetic, that was that. When we complained, someone else offered to move us to the garden but it felt impossible with such a big group so we had to leave. The silver lining is that we’re now having breakfast somewhere that is actually dog friendly and LGBTQ+ friendly but we missed out on spending this time with our friends on a special day. Our dogs are well used to going to cafes and pubs and are very well behaved. As a queer couple, our dogs are our family. If we’d gone in with 3 screaming babies we would have been welcomed. But they rejected our queer family with no explanation. There are much nicer places to eat and drink in Lancaster and much fancier ones too (if that’s your thing) who will happily welcome me and my dogs. I won’t be going back to the Borough.
TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! We were the first to arrive and waited for 1 hour and the food had still not arrived. Customers that came in after us had eaten their food already. We were told by one of the waitress that the beef had to be slow cooked and this is why it was taking so long, 10 mins later the manager then came over and told us they lost the order and it didn't reach the kitchen. The staff didn't even come over to check how we were doing. We decided to leave and go somewhere else where the service was much better. I've worked in hospitality for many years and I know it shouldn't be this poor. I will definitely not go to the Borough again and would not recommend it to anyone.
