Contribuiți la feedbackThe place is really a Korean BBQ atmosphere. We love it, especially we used to live in Korea for years. We just wish we could BBQ ourselves instead of the kitchen does it for us.Next time when if we decide to go, I will order the special Makchang with extra port belly and have the kitchen to cook Makchang little bit longer. The Banchan dishes are more for adults than kids friendly. I felt sorry for my kids that they love Japchae so much but it has to be separate order. There are still quite a bit space the restaurant can improve. We will come back later to check one more time.
Yeah, it's super far if you're coming from Seattle, and it's pricy too. But if you're a lover of fried intestines and Korean bar vibes , I think Makchang Drama is totally worth the trip. Make a day of it. Hang out at Southcenter Mall with some friends, go to Round 1 arcade, travel down to Makchang Drama for guts and KBBQ, then find a noraebang (Korean karaoke spot on your way back up. Drink a bunch of soju. (Not the driver. Get merry.I love makchang (beef intestines and gopchang (small intestines for their chewy, fatty texture and super savory flavor! If you're not a fan of fatty or chewy meat products (like chicken skin, pork belly, tendon, offal, etc , you might not be a fan of this. But if you love guts (like me , you'll love these! They come out on a smoking hot grill so they're just a bit crisp on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside... mmm... I'm salivating just thinking of it. Cut through the oil with some somaek (soju beer and you're cooking! We ordered a couple of other dishes (like the boiled pork and it came with free banchan (side dishes . I definitely would go again, and often if only it wasn't so far! It's all the way down in Lakewood, just past Tacoma. I'll just have to settle for only making a special trip once in a while.
Let's get this out of the way first it's pricey but totally worth it. Especially if you want what they're cooking! It's also super cute inside, with a bunch of walled off sections of bare wood and wavy roofing panels and hanging patio lights. Speaking of that, there are soju twist off caps hanging from the overhead table lights, which just made my night. I can imagine it would feel really crowded when busy, but we got in before the rush. Also, there is a parking lot right out front, strip mall style, so if you can find a space, grab it.If you want gopchang, they have gopchang! Lots of choices. And bulgogi japchae, and several soups, too. I didn't have the gopchang, as I was in the mood for something else. One stir fried Tofu Kimchi Pork later, and I was gloriously happy. Such a simple dish but it was made well, with just enough spice, lots of firm tofu and a generous helping of extras. Plenty big for two peeps to totally stuff themselves. The staff seemed super friendly and were really attentive. I came here on a whim because I happened to be in Lakewood, but I'm definitely going back.
Good food and good service. A bit on the pricey side though. Almost $400 for 6 adults...Definitely worth checking out though if you are in Lakehood.
Craving naengmyeon and wanted to try their specialty, gopchang aka intestines. I don 't normally eat gopchang.Easy to get to off of S Tacoma Way in a little plaza. Parking is shared with other stores and restaurants, it can get busy. Otherwise you can get parking right out front. We ordered the combo spicy stir fried gopchang and spicy cold noodles.Walking in you feel like you 're in a Korean bar. The vibe and ambiance/sectioned off areas for more privacy really take you somewhere else. Loved all the cute decor and signs everywhere.Naengmyeon or spicy cold noodles were delicious. One of my favorite things to eat during the summer time. Fresh, spicy, tangy and filling. The gopchang stir fry was good! No gamy taste and the sauce compliments it really well. For it being spicy it wasn 't very spicy at all. The pickled onions are so nostalgic. Server was efficient and friendly. If you 're a gopchang lover or want to try it I would give makchang drama a try! They do have other Korean dishes on their menu.
