I really, really hate to give out 1 star reviews. Particularly to a small business. I always try to find ways to give them a positive spin, even when it was a truly terrible experience. I don't do 1 stars on a business, ever, unless I've been ripped off.The food (chicken taquito plate) was tasty, refried beans were good, salsa was good. Chips were so so, rice was a little dry (I suspect it was leftover from the previous day). Service was meh, but I got there right at open on a Monday, so I can't fault them for only having one person in the front of house (right at 11am on 3/28 sounded like only 1 person in the BOH, so 2 total). Now remember where I said the food was tasty? That was going down. It's an entirely different story coming back up today, starting around 2am. I've had food poisoning my share of times, but this was so bad that I went to the hospital, and spent a good chunk of my day on IV fluids, getting pumped full of Zofran (a powerful anti=nausea medication), and getting a CT scan my stomach hurt so bad that I thought my appendix had burst. Even now, every time I burp or vomit, or even pass gas, I taste and smell those taquitos again. It's now about 11:30 PM on 3/29, and I'm finally able to keep water down (I hope... this is the longest I've gone without vomiting or pooping since early this morning, it's been 30 minutes since I had some water). This was my only meal yesterday as well I work long days, don't do breakfast, and keep some chips and such with me to snack on through the day. I still haven't eaten today, and probably won't be able to eat until tomorrow (3/30). So there's nothing else I can blame for getting so sick unless a couple of granola bars (which I keep in my work vehicle and eat daily) suddenly went bad 6 months before their sell by date?My best guess is whoever cooked the taquitos didn't wash their hands (or change their gloves, if they wear them in BOH I've worked in plenty of restaurants, and it's really a toss up as to whether or not they wear them with raw food) between handling raw chicken and plating my meal. I've never been this sick from food before, and I hope I'm never this sick again. The ER doctor thinks it's probably salmonella, since it was involving chicken. The only upside is I was able to get a different health issue checked out when they did the CT scan (thankfully, the related organ showed up fine).
I have always supported Maria’s because they are local, but $14 for plain cheese queso to go had taken me off their customer list.

I love Maria's chicken tortilla soup!I go there pretty often with my husband, and we always received excellent service. Even when they are super busy they are always super attentive to their customers.
