Chedi Thai Bistro - La Jolla

We were looking forward to our visit to La Jolla, in a restaurant that used to be one of our favorites in the old days: Royal Thai, now Chedi Bistro. The restaurant could be attractive, but it is not well kept and looks a bit shady and little lust. It was a disaster from the beginning to the end. We had a reservation, but when we arrived, they said there was no table, although there were obviously some open. We got no attention for the first ten minutes until my husband asked the man on the desk for some water. We didn't seem to have a specific server. A young woman came once and apologized for waiting. Apart from this high point, we had to ask for everything, and no one checked with us how we did it. Long after we finished, we had to ask for the check. The food was fine, nothing unforgettable, but pleasant. The service was not present, and the servers were clear. The kitchen seemed slow and deorganized, and not all food came at the same time. They don't seem to care about the good of their guests at all. This is a shame and unfortunately inspired me to write this criticism to protect others from a disappointing experience.

The Thai food scene in San Diego is not too big, and this place was on average compared to the rest. The menu was quite American, what was for me since I wished everything had more heat. The steamed shells for the appetizers were nothing special than they used to steam frozen shells. The duck was good, I have green curry and it came with rice. The dessert wasn't too great. The friend bananas are not fried in a dough, but packed in wonton envelopes, they were lukewarm (not hot) and chew (not crispy), so they seemed to be sitting under the hot lamp for an hour before we served. At the end of the night, the server fell casually from the review for us without a single thank you or even a smile that was disappointing. It's on the more expensive side for Thai food that I could get elsewhere, so I'll just save money next time and go into the hole in the wall, authentic Thai restaurants that I'm used to.

I was lucky to choose this place for lunch while visiting La Jolla. Some of the best Thai food I had. Flavorful, correspondingly spicy...so tired of tinted glands Thai...great value. I would highly recommend this place.

The ambience is beautiful, the service friendly, but deorganized. We waited too long for order and food and drinks. Some of the dishes were delicious while others left much to wish. Too expensive for Thai food!

We were a visiting party of 5 (including 2 vegetarians) and everyone was pleased with their dishes. I especially liked the Tom Kha Gai (coconut chicken soup with lime and galanga root) which I consider the litmus test dish to judge a Thai restaurant). The spices were nicely balanced, the chicken was all breast meat, the lemon grass, galanga root and kefir lime leaves were in good proportion. I prefer straw mushrooms, however. The chef is liberal with the heat index, so order conservatively unless you like really spicy food. We also enjoyed the Pad Thai and musmun curry. The decor is pleasant, but not intimate. Thai food is inexpensive in some locales. Not so much in La Jolla. I 'd go there again, given the chance.
