Cafe Grill - Kyoto-shi, Higashiyama-ku

This place was right across the street from our hotel (New Miyako) and I must say that they hit the spot with service and flavor. I didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by the food. We were extremely hungry but the restaurant in our hotel was closed and we needed to eat something after an 11.5 hour flight and 4 hour train ride to Kyoto. I had the linguini with mushrooms and marinara. It was really tasty and came out fresh. I want to commend the restaurant for providing us with food at a later hour that actually tasted good. I would definitely suggest that people try food place if they get the chance.

Located across the street from our Hotel, New Miyako , in the mall connected to main Kyoto station. Good place for morning coffee and a quick inexpensive meal that's tasty. They take credit card but don't have take-out. Morning donduri was a bit salty.

Love it. Exploring the station with my teenage son. So many things to choose from and we picked this place for Japanese breakfast. Price is great. Very friendly staff. For someone who cannot speak a single word of Japanese, they have picture menu. There is also free wifi in the mall. I ordered a grilled salmon set and my son ordered a udon set. Very satisfying meal. It comes with a drink as well. I got hot tea and my son got OJ. We will be back!

I had the seafood rissoto with a coffee. Both were excellent and a wonderful break from eating only Japanese food for this gaijin. The service is your standard Japanese service (excellent). The restaurant is conveniently located at Suzoya Kyoto station. A final tip is that they are quite strict about their breakfast menu times (which ends at 11 am) and will not take a breakfast menu item order after breakfast time ends.

The portions we're tiny and incredibly lackluster in taste. The pizza was more like a thin undercooked piece of paper drowned in sauce while the lasagna had a single piece of pasta which was swimming in a white sauce with red meat. The price was to be expected from an Italian restaurant that actually had Italian food, which this place did not. Prepare to pay for an untastefull snack before heading down the hall to a different restaurant like we did. The one factor keeping this place from a 1 star review is the fact that the service was excellent. The people were very nice and this fact is not to be overlooked.
