I'm no great wine connoisseur so was slightly concerned this might be a bit too much of a wine bar serving food, as opposed to a restaurant with decent wine, but it was definitely the latter. The first thing that struck us was the general atmosphere of the place which just felt very cosy and friendly. It's slightly out of the main city centre, I think we were the only non-Germans in the place, and the menu was all German, which all added to the view that this was an authentic decent restaurant, and not particularly aimed at tourists. With some help from some friendly fellow diners and the waiting staff, we just about managed to work out what the menu was about, although it wasn't until later that I was able to find out what schwarwurzel was! The food was excellent throughout, the portions sizes small but definitely enough over 3 courses, and the taste of the food simply exploded in your mouth. It's not cheap, but not stupidly expensive either. Overall a fabulous and enjoyable experience.
The menue of the day with appetizer, main course and dessert for 39,90 is a good catch. The variety of wines is very good as well. If you want to eat big portions for a few bugs, this is probably not the right place for you. If you want to have a delicious and creative dinner, it is :-)
Restaurant located in the center of cologne. Finding a place to park is a nightmare. Once found we walked to the restaurant, welcome was friendly. Menu card with little choice, 4/5 starters and 4/5 mains, this is always a good sign means they work with fresh products. Indeed quality of the food was good and all at reasonable prices. I will come again despite the difficulty finding a place to park.
I have been here for business dinners a couple of times now as the food is always so tasty. I've eaten here early but the restaurant always has a good atmosphere. The menu is very small (about 5 starters, 5 mains and 5 desserts). I like this as I always struggle to choose from big menus! The first time I went the chef gave us a selection of the starters each for our main meal. This was lovely and like a taster menu. On Monday when I visited I ordered from the main courses and had a beautifully cooked guinea fowel. The portions are just right and the food is delicious - really good flavours. The waiters seem to know their wine as well and gave us a good choice of white wine to drink. I'll be making this a regular choice for dinner from now on.
So Cologne is a beer City but you have here a wine restaurant with 40 wines by glass, and some serious winemakers like Künstler, Fritz Haag, Dr. Loosen, so the opportunity to drink superb wines at extremely reasonable prices is amazing----unfortunately the food does not match up to the wine. I had the set lunch, incredible value at 12.90 Euros for 2 courses. The stuffed eggplant was very poor, had not been prepared so was hard as a rock, fillet of cod was good quality but poorly seasoned, then the real turn off was the Savoy cabbage and chestnut ravioli---which they admitted was bought from outside and a real disappointment---no chestnuts whatsoever and the cabbage was a couple of small florets on the outside. If they are really serious about their offering, they really need to sort out the kitchen. However if you want to try some absolutely superb German wine makers by glass, this is the place to go,
