When I arrived, I was uncertain if this place was one of those small-town walk-up ice cream stands or how their system worked. I was pleasantly surprised to see a car in what appeared to be a drive-thru. After circling the building, I parked behind that same car. It didn't take long to realize that this was a unique type of drive-thru—there was only one window for ordering and picking up. If there’s a line, I noticed that they would likely ask you to pull over. I was unsure whether the staff would deliver my order to the car or if I would need to go to a walk-up window. Within minutes, I reached the window, only to be disappointed when I discovered that this was actually a Pizza King. While I enjoy Pizza King, I had been hoping to find a Frosty Boy. The building still retained many features of the Frosty Boy aesthetic, but it wasn’t until I got close that I noticed the Pizza King signs on the windows and door. I didn't see any indication for dine-in service, and since I wasn’t in the mood for takeout pizza, I hesitated. They did have a tempting lasagna special, but aside from a handwritten sign advertising it, I thought it was odd that there was no visible menu outside. Since I was surprised to find it wasn't a Frosty Boy, I asked if they had hamburgers as well, to which they replied they did. I opted for a burger, fries, and an unsweetened iced tea. They offered two sizes of iced tea, and the server had to check if they had any available since they sometimes run out, but fortunately, they did. I should note that their large size is probably equivalent to a medium at most other places. I also ordered a large size of fries, which was roughly what you would expect for a standard large order. The good news was that my meal was incredibly affordable at $5.40. The not-so-great news was that it tasted like a $5.40 meal. The burger was mediocre at best, and I’m being generous here; the thin crinkle-cut fries were nearly inedible. On the upside, the iced tea was refreshing. Although Richmond boasts one of the best Pizza King locations, I would rank this one near the lower end of the chain. The food was average at best, the service was merely functional, and there’s no doubt that if I were to return to Knightstown, I would seek out other options, perhaps even the pizza place directly across the street. I initially thought this might be a new location in the process of transitioning, but a quick look at the Pizza King website revealed that this franchise has been around since 2016. There are several things that could enhance the experience: 1. **Signage:** While locals likely know it’s a Pizza King, travelers along U.S. 40 could benefit from clear signage that indicates the restaurant and its offerings, making them feel welcomed. 2. **Hospitality:** When someone mentions it’s their first visit, staff could show more enthusiasm and be helpful, perhaps offering a menu if needed. 3. **Supply Management:** Regularly running out of iced tea indicates a management issue. It's essential to keep adequate supplies, especially for popular items. 4. **Drive-Thru Efficiency:** Given the limited space, finding ways to streamline the ordering and service process would significantly improve the drive-thru experience, alongside enhancing signage. These improvements could help elevate the overall experience at this location.
The restaurant is not what it used to be! It seems that the owners are prioritizing their profits by cutting corners, which negatively impacts the customer experience. The quality of the products is very poor, and the food doesn’t taste good at all. I can’t recommend anything on the menu anymore.
The toppings were stale, and they didn’t even include cheese. This is the second and last time I’ll be ordering from this franchise. They never seem to get the order right or acknowledge their mistakes. I will definitely be reporting this to the BBB. It's always outdated toppings and poorly prepared food!
Hot food and fast service great thanks
