Contribuiți la feedbackI wish I had read the reviews before ordering takeout from this restaurant. I was told it would take 45 minutes, but when I arrived in just 30 minutes, I was given a cold pizza that was much more expensive than the one I had ordered. Unfortunately, it wasn't even my pizza. I have no idea whose pizza I received, but they lucked out because it was inedible and unrecognizable.
We were visiting from out of town and had heard mixed reviews about their pizza, with some saying the crusts could be overbaked. Despite this, we decided to try it out since it was the best option open on July 1st. We placed our order over the phone and picked it up, although they do offer delivery. As someone who needs to eat gluten-free, I ordered a Hawaiian pizza with a gluten-free crust, which ended up being cheaper than the regular crust but slightly smaller in size. Our group also ordered an artisan Great Spinach, a BBQ chicken, and a Pepperoni pizza. I made sure to request that the crusts not be overbaked, and they all came out perfectly cooked. All the pizzas were delicious with no complaints. Although the price was a bit higher than other places in town, it was definitely worth it. We would not hesitate to order from them again when we are in town.
I almost missed out on writing a review about this place because we didn 't get service the first time we walked in. I took my niece and her friend to make an order for take out but there was no waitress inside that I could see. I assumed the woman sitting outside talking in a group was the waitress, but I didn 't want to go up to her in case she was actually a customer. We waited a few minutes then woman who I assumed was the waitress, who ended up being the waitress, got a phone call for an order so she was sort of forced to come inside to take that order. She walked past us, took the order, got off the phone, brought the order to the back kitchen and all of this without even acknowledging that we were there. She didn 't make eye contact, she didn 't say sorry, I 'll help you in one moment , she didn 't even act like we were there. She ignored us even as she was off the phone, writing on her notepad in front of us. Even my 14 year old niece noticed that it was odd and asked me why she was ignoring us. When she didn 't come out from the back we decided to leave and try to find somewhere else. We were looking for something quick for a group to share as we only had an hour or so before we had to get back to the soccer event that was going on in town. The girls really wanted pizza and no other pizza places were open during that time of the day. So I decided to call and place a phone order as that seemed like the only way to get service. Placed the order, no issues. Picked up the pizza and she seemed a little shocked when it was me picking it up. I understand the effect industry is having on small local businesses when it comes to staffing. But, local businesses need to ensure that the staff they do have are properly trained in customer service, not just slinging beers. Anyone who has proper training in the service industry would have recognized that they were in the wrong and would have made the effort to apologize for the lack of service after I came in the second time. If she had I would have loved to leave a tip and would have gladly accepted the apology plus would be a returning customer. I am a generous tipper (even on take-out), I am an easy customer and we weren 't asking for a lot. Just a simple take out order, she wouldn 't have even had to serve us. Unfortunately I left no tip, I won 't recommend this place, and I won 't be returning.
During my culinary exploration of Kitimat “The Bistro,” as it is now called, was high on my list of places to try. On paper it had a very appealing menu: An attractive assortment of appies from wings to calamari to deep-fried pickles; a variety of delightful sandwiches, including unique Paninis; house-made burgers and fish chips; specialty hot dogs and pizzas. In short, I thought I’d have many, many reasons to return. Unfortunately, my first visit was so unimpressive that I thought it best not to return. Everything I ordered was just. Not. Good. Before I elaborate, I’d like to offer a brief comment on the physical space and service: I initially liked the space. Sure, it’s small and kind of cramped, but it stood out because the owners of the establishment have chosen to emphasize “the local.” Yes, there’s the typical national sports memorabilia plastered all over the place, but there’s also a fair amount of community sports items placed throughout as well. It’s nice to see a local establishment promote the home culture. That promotion goes well beyond sports and into the spirits as well: Wheelhouse Brewing (Prince Rupert) and Sherwood Mountain Beer (Terrace) is on offer for those wanting to sample local brews. The Food: Upon being seated and perusing the attractive menu, I ordered the hot chicken wings, small pepperoni pizza and the Mera Dog. I didn’t have to wait very long for food to start arriving – maybe 10 or 15 minutes. The wings were up first. Far from being “perfectly seasoned,” these were some of the saddest chicken wings I’d come across in recent memory. They were dried up (looking kind of mummified), way over seasoned and a far cry from being hot or spicy. The seasoning salt made them taste much more like overdone salt pepper wings than “hot” wings. Truth be told, I’ve had gas station wings of better – much better – quality. Up next was the pepperoni pizza. It didn’t look anywhere near as attractive as the propaganda photos, nor did it taste very exciting, either. It reminded me of cardboard. On the bright side, at least it wasn’t greasy. Then came the Mera Dog, which was the item I was most looking forward to. After all, this place apparently specializes in unique dogs, so this should be good, right? Much like everything else I’d ordered up to this point, the item I received didn’t look anything like the propaganda photos online. The hot dog bun was burnt and the toppings were laid out quite sloppily – very unattractive looking. Taste-wise it was better than the wings and pizza, but that’s not saying much. [A funny aside: Not long after my visit to The Bistro, I sent a photo of my Mera Dog to M. The response? “What is that and why is it on one of my plates? It looks disgusting!” Really, I think that about sums up my overall feelings for The Bistro. I feel that The Bistro is a very big missed opportunity. The menu is attractive, but the execution is lacking in a major way. I’m left recalling a quote I saw posted on a Vancouver eatery a while back: “Shame on you if you don’t give us a try. Shame on us if you don’t come back.” That definitely holds true here. As I noted above, I’d intended to come back and try other items, but the quality of what I did have was just so underwhelming there was no reason to come back. FOOD: 2/5 SERVICE: 2.5/5 VALUE: 2/5 RECOMMENDATION: If you’re wandering through Kitimat Mall and feeling a bit peckish, go to MOM’S CUISINE instead. If you want pizza, go to Chilly Dancer’s or Pizzarama. Any of these places is better than The Bistro. I’m usually not too picky when it comes to food – the joke being I’m just as happy in a McDonald’s as I am in a 5-star establishment – but this place was just one big disappointment. Not recommended. After placing an order for delivery, I was told that there would be a wait of over an hour. Given that there are only two pizza places in town and lots of contractor traffic, this was to be expected. However, after an hour, the delivery driver called to say he couldn't find my address. It turns out that the wrong address was given to him by the dispatch. He ended up returning to the restaurant with a cold pizza, and a new one had to be made. Three hours later, it was finally delivered to the wrong address once again. After a third attempt, it was finally delivered to the correct address. This level of service is unacceptable. To make matters worse, each time I called to check on my order, the staff was rude and dismissive. My suggestion is to take your business to the other pizza place in town.
