Contribuiți la feedbackThe Windmill is a lovely restaurant with great food. It’s never really crowded, which is why we enjoy going there even if we don’t play golf. We miss dining on the terrace, as it used to be a more personalized experience. The surroundings are beautiful, too.
Ironically, my sister and I both ordered the club sandwich on white bread. I asked for mine to be grilled instead of roasted, along with a side of crispy, unsalted fries. My sister opted for the regular roasted bread with crispy sweet potatoes. My sandwich came out hot and grilled, but to my disappointment, there was no bacon on either sandwich. By the time we received a side of bacon, we had already eaten half of our sandwiches. It was after lunch, and neither of us had eaten beforehand. The fries were perfectly cooked, but the sandwich fell short of our expectations. The service was average, and it quickly became clear why the restaurant wasn’t busy that afternoon. There are just too many other delightful places to eat in the area, and I’d likely choose elsewhere next time.
Upon entering, there was no one to greet us and no sign indicating whether we should seat ourselves, which was rather confusing. When I finally spotted an employee, she told us to sit anywhere we liked, so we chose a table by the window. After several minutes, the waitress came to take our drink order but seemed annoyed that we wanted water. We went to wash our hands, and by the time we returned to the table, the waitress had just brought our water. Both my daughter and I have severe allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, and peppers. I politely asked what kind of oil they use to cook their fries since it's a question we always ask when eating out. The waitress replied, "I don’t know. They cook them in what they cook them in." That was quite unhelpful. I explained our allergies and specifically asked if they used peanut oil. She sighed and said she would check in the back. When she returned, she informed us they use canola oil. I then ordered two cheese-only quesadillas and an order of fries. I requested they cook the quesadillas in a pan since we’ve found that most restaurants suggest that for our food allergies. The waitress seemed annoyed, took our order, and walked away. A few minutes later, she returned aggressively and announced, “I didn’t even put your order in. They don’t have a pan big enough to cook your quesadillas.” I'm not sure how she knew they lacked a suitable pan—perhaps they had only tiny pans in the back for little foods, or maybe they had enormous tortillas. I guess I’ll never know. At this point, we decided to leave. I have never experienced such poor treatment at any restaurant before! I hope the owner reads this review because I feel as though we were discriminated against—perhaps because of our allergies, or because we were the only two females in the restaurant aside from the waitress, or because we aren’t golfers. Maybe she just didn’t like how we looked. Whatever the reason, it was an awful experience, and the waitress had a name that started with an A. After leaving, we found Fortuna Bakery just down the road, where we were treated kindly and enjoyed some delicious pastries and bread. It certainly provided a silver lining to our otherwise dreadful experience at The Windmills golf course restaurant, which, as I've already stated, was a nightmare.
You don’t have to golf here to have lunch. Easy to get here from I-4. Ample parking. Had wraps of chicken and then Cajun shrimp. See photo. Tasty flavorful wraps. Moist. Excellent value. Clean and socially distanced.
Played golf and then had lunch at the Windmill. As part of golf fees $56 green fees incl cart) received a voucher good for an entree at the restaurant--great deal as had 3 tasty chicken tacos with chips and salsa. Service was quick and attentive Kylie). No complaints here.
