Aux Merveilleux De Fred

The pastry selection at this restaurant is quite impressive. Everything we tried was delicious, although the ones we had in Brussels were slightly better because the creme waffles were served warm, whereas these were cold. Still, very good overall.

We went to the bakery for my birthday cake, which I always buy on December 23rd or 24th each year. I had visited the day before and spoken to a staff member. Upon entering, I was approached by an Asian lady who I discussed the size and make up of the cake with. When the excellent Asian waitress showed me the cake, I noticed it had too much white meringue base. Both the waitress and the bartender agreed with me, so they called the manager. The manager insisted it was fine, and when I asked her to compare it to the display cake, she told me not to touch it, even though I didn't. I told her I had been a regular for over 25 years and asked to speak with the Italian, Brazilian, and Australian ladies who worked there, but she laughed and said she had been the manager for over 10 years. I agreed to order a cake if they could improve the makeup. Unfortunately, the new Italian manager came to the till and lectured me about the size of the cake, threatening to call security if I didn't leave. I complained about the lack of customer service and the disrespectful behavior, but the manager refused to change the cake. Another man shouted at me, calling me names and telling me to go back to my country. The manager supported this behavior and even laughed about it. My wife paid while I argued with the English man, and I saw the manager mocking us with the other customers. The service was slow, even though the place wasn't busy, and other customers interfered with my order. I don't know if this was because of my skin color or if it's acceptable to insult and humiliate clients in this establishment. The lack of professionalism from the manager ruined our experience, and I will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone. I will also be sharing this experience with my friends, family, and local authorities. The insults and hate speech I received are unacceptable, and the staff and manager's reaction only made it worse.

My friend and I visited this place for coffee and Merveilleux treats. These delightful desserts are like fluffy meringue, topped with almonds, hazelnuts, and other toppings. They were a bit difficult to eat and a tad too sweet for our liking. We ordered two and they came in a charming box. Quite fancy!

Sadly going downhill. Sandwiches used to be great. Now there is very little filling, too much mayonnaise (why mayonnaise in a mozzarella and pesto sandwich? , salty and poorly executed. Salmon very salty, skimpy and fatty fillings for egg, tuna, goat cheese. Also seems like the quality of the fillings are not as good. The brioche are noticeably smaller. Must be the cost of expansion but not a fan anymore. Looks better than it is.

Coffee and a large Brioche Bun highly recommended start to the day. The coffee is great, I had a flat white which was better than those from large coffee chains. I wanted to sit in all day trying cakes and the great selection of sandwiches. Opted for a large Brioche Bun which was delicious. Great food and polite staff. Will visit again!
