Nice sitting area in the open and eating came fast. only one block from the water, but not a point of view. solid Greek food, but nothing amazing.
We family and I have recently dined in bakkus taverna on a Saturday afternoon. we often dinate here, but lately the service has developed much worse. there were three server and only 7-8 tables max. in restaurant. certainly not busy. we waited for placement and then waited a long time until we are recognized at the table. the longest we have ever waited between server visits. we were not even offered on drinks refill. we saw a few coming and waiting awhile to be welcomed and finally just left. I heard the bartender/server who spoke on the phone to someone who complained that they were “busy”. these servers need at least a minimum of training to serve restaurant guests. on the day we visited, there was no owner/manager. the staff urgently needs a direction. also prices have risen. for the three of us eat only sandwichs and a bath, without alcohol, our bill was $70.00 we ordered a feta cheese dip, came with about 5 pita chips not close enough for a big dip. we asked for more and were charged $2.00 eating accepted for getting. the whole food was very good, but weakened by terrible service, which is why we will not be back.
The restaurant is classic kemah local. in Kemah-Boardwalk. the personal is friendly. beautiful menu choices, Greek, huh, burger, steak, dessert, drinks. we loved the Greek meatball appetizer marinara sauce was very tasteful (served in cup on the side) meatballs were also very tasteful and well seasoned. tzatziki was okay. gyro plate was very nice. flavorful and large portion. combo kabob was also very large with 2 spits. fun. desserts baklava hands down was fabulous. brotpudding 2. favorit, hot, damp and light. great taste. eis wasn't bluebell. ? filo cup with custard was also very nice. Online menu indicated, there was a chocolate baklava and reispudding. but we did not see it on the menu in the restaurant. a large selection.
My family and I have been going to Bakkhus Taverna since it reopened after Hurricane Ike. The wait staff has changed many times over the years. The food has remained the of good quality and the manager, Lance, deserves high praise doing his very best to maintain the quality of food and service and that has not always been an easy task. On a past visit, we sat at a table for what we thought was a little too long without being noticed by the staff. We left. Out on the sidewalk near the intersection of 6th and Kipp Avenue, we heard Lance behind us. He had hurried out to stop us and ask us to return. We did. He acknowledged we'd been coming there a long time and, not without emotion, expressed his regrets for the service. It was not his fault. That general personal spirit and fortitude exemplified by Lance that day should not go unnoticed.
