Stockhammer - Kelheim

The good, traditional, architectural Look of this Inn (Gaststaette) is doubled by a good Menu-offer, with (mainly) traditional Food from the region.I had the Pumpkin-Soup (small and delicious) and the Frying-Pan with Dumplings, Duck & Pork Meat, accompanied by some boiled Vegetables-- also good. Perhaps the best part (along with the Soup) was the Dessert (Mango -Sorbet). Not the cheapest offer-- portions are rather small-- but the best to find in the city of Kelheim.{Service was okay, maybe a bit stressed from too many Customers}.

I know the Stockhammer since many years. It used to be the first address in Kelheim for a good lunch. Well, it still is; I have the impression, they try their very best. At least the choice is quite huge, and they also have a list of daily dishes which is not so bad. The quality of the food seems to be quite OK: we tried the fish platter, the Zwiebelrostbraten, the Stockhammer Pfandl, the Gemüse-Spiess, and last but not least we also tried their vegan choice which was a vegetable roll filled with grain and garnished with potatoes and a white soya dip. Not bad! (Though there would a lot more possible ...).The service, which I heard could be quite slow during Sunday lunch rush hours, was quite OK for this Saturday evening. All dishes arrived within time and - very important - for everybody more or less at the same time. There would nothing more be more annoying than if somebody has already eaten while the other on the table is still waiting. This was not the case this time. So, we hope that the Stockhammer is still on the right track ... See and check them next time again!

Food was delicious and fresh. We sat outside on the nice patio off the quiet street. The waitress was very friendly just make sure at least someone in your group speaks German.

Absolutely perfect lunch, i ordered the fish platter, perfect good quality fish, only problem i had was the slow service, i was sitting with another two people, the one person got their food first then the next person got their food half an hour later and me last, we ended up not eating together and that was a problem and not a good first visit for me. I highly recommend the quality of food but for that experience of the long wait till my food arrived, i wont visit again.

In Kelheim visiting local friends this was a dining highlight. The environment is traditional and food is Bavarian but here it is crafted with a level of finesse seldom seen in similar level restaurants. It is a surprise. So much is as expected, traditional small town Bavarian restaurant, friendly but irregular service, bar and restaurant full of locals calling to each other and to the owner and staff makes it a comfortable place to spend an evening. Then the food starts to arrive and you suddenly realise this is not 1kg schnitzel territory. Thoroughly delightful.
