Araouzos Tavern - Kathikas

Yesterday we passed Kathikas spontaneous and went into Arouzos Tavern for a quick dinner. The atmosphere in the restaurant directly situated in village centre of Kathikas is very authentic and a fresh breeze in the garden gives opportunity to cool down a bit. The chef was very friendly and helpful. There was no real menue instead the chef gave recommendations what he can offer. I prefer this to big menues with lots of frozen offers. For my wife he created some nice vegan dishes. I got a traditional meze which was fresh and tasty. The village salad was really delicious. The open white wine was refreshing and had good quality. At the end we received fresh water melon. The price of dinner was quite fair. We will come back for sure. A lovely romantic small place in distance of the typical tourist places.

A very special place, with authentic Cypriot food, delicious and not touristy. The owner of the place prepares the food himself, third generation of the place. There is no menu, just a flat price of €18 per diner for lunch (breakfast seems to me to be €8 per diner . The dishes arrive slowly and each time something different. It was very, very tasty and in the end we already asked him to stop bringing food because we were already very full. Pay attention to arrive at ease and with free time to sit calmly. Sample dishes: fried halloumi, sausage, Greek salad, bread, spreads, stuffed grape leaves (amazing!! , hot beans, boiled meat, stew with liver, zucchini with egg, lamb chops, chicken and potatoes and more.. If there are children you should ask him for the chicken and potatoes at first, in addition it seemed that the owner of the house does not speak English that well.

Wir came to kathikas with our two small children to see the winery and walk through the village and came a little by mistake to the tavern. It appeared that we even surprised the cook a bit ; I guess the tavern was closed when we arrived. But he joyfully has welcomed us and seated us on the outside veranda. The food was delicious and we and our kids enjoyed our stay. Price per person: €5–10
