Captain Hooks Fish Chicken - Kankakee

This place is absolutely fantastic! The staff is incredibly friendly, and the chicken is cooked to perfection! Although I don’t live in the area as I’m a truck driver, I always make it a point to stop by whenever I'm in town. I highly recommend calling ahead to place your order. I love this place; they never disappoint!

It was nice to see that everyone was wearing masks, as we’re still in the midst of a pandemic. There weren’t too many people inside, which made it easy to maintain social distance. However, there were just enough waiting in their cars to prepare for their orders. We waited about 10 minutes for ours, and it was definitely worth it! The food was piping hot. The fries were delicious—no extra salt needed! The shrimp was nicely seasoned, which I really appreciated. I skipped the bread because I had already had enough carbs and felt satisfied. The turnaround time for our order was impressively quick, and I really appreciated that when I walked out. The staff was friendly, there was ample parking, and the prices were reasonable. The portion sizes were generous as well. I would definitely come back—next time, I’m planning to try the fish!

I had the 10-piece shrimp with fries, and it was delicious. While I was dining, the server suggested I try the new Colombian slaw, and it was also excellent!

The best chicken around! The owner tells me that the chicken is delivered fresh in the morning and never frozen. The skin melts in your mouth and you cannot beat the prices. Much better than the chains and the hyped boutique fried chicken spots in the city.

Catfish fillets were excellent! Fries were amazing (can't believe I said that since I work for a rival French fry company). The atmosphere is a bit sketchy and I wasn't sure about it, but the food is totally worth it!
