Contribuiți la feedbackORDER TO GO, DO NOT EAT IN!! Came to Willie Mae's to celebrate my best friend's birthday since this is one of the few places in LA for Louisiana food. I really wish we had never stepped foot in this place. Right from walking in, it smelled like Bourbon street but not in the good fresh seafood boil way. It was obvious cleanliness was lacking but as they only had one chef and one waitress I figured sometimes it's hard to clean throughout the day. We were seated by the waitress with braces and told she would come back with water and to take our order. 70 minutes passed before she came back to take our order only after 2 repeated attempts to stand up and ASK for service. We then placed an order that never came. That's right, we sat for 2 hours and 15 minutes only for them to continually tell us that food would be out in 10 minutes and then disappear for another extended period of time. The chef even came out to tell us that fresh chicken was going to be coming out. They explained that the wait was because of so many catering orders. I would've understood this but every other table that came in got service, food, and their check. It wasn't even BUSY!
Edit: Been ordering from this place for several months now. Their seafood and gumbo are really salty. Way too salty. That's my only complaint. First off, I'm from Louisiana. Central Louisiana, where Cajun food comes from (not New Orleans, which is the home of Creole food). I ordered the gumbo (which was Cajun-style), fried chicken, fried catfish and shrimp, brussel sprouts, mac and cheese, cornbread, and the bread pudding. I wanted to try a little of everything. It was amazing. Across the board. The gumbo was a little on the salty side, but the flavors and ingredients were all there and they were all CORRECT. This is the first time since leaving home 20 years ago that I have found gumbo that tastes just like my mom's. And she had the best gumbo in my area. I am actually floored. I almost cried. Nobody has EVER got it right, and then this. These people know gumbo! I am so thankful to have found this restaurant. I still cannot believe it.
