Contribuiți la feedbackWe ordered chicken with vegetables and stir-fried vegetables in oyster sauce. The total cost was only $23 and the food was delicious and fresh. However, I wish I had asked what vegetables were in the second dish. To my surprise, it turned out to be half a head of salad in oyster sauce. It was very tasty, but not very filling.
You know it's good when filled with Chinese diners. Prices are incredibly low. Must try steamed barramundi for 15 dollars. Amazing to think everything on the menu, all cooked by a cook
I was recommended to try Heaton Bowling Club for some good Chinese food by a friend, and I must say, it was the best Chinese meal I've ever had. They are closed on Tuesdays, but open every other day for both lunch and dinner. They offer $8 lunch specials daily, as well as beef, chicken, and pork meals for $12.80 each, which come in generous portions. Their menu is extensive and they also offer takeout options.
Though I couldn't get exactly what I was looking for in the menu, the staff were friendly enough to enquire with the chef. I had takeaway noodles this time, and the taste was pretty good. The selection of dishes on the menu will have me my husband trying out this place again. So if you are looking for Chinese style dishes (menu looked authentic enough), I would recommend to give it a try.
I am a Bowling member of this Club, so visit it quite often. The food is as good, if not better than any other restaurant in Newcastle specializing in Asian cuisine. The kitchen is open plan so those concerned about hygiene can see the food being prepared. What sets it apart is the popularity with the Chinese community, which stems from its proximity to Newcastle University where many Chinese students come to graduate, then if they decide to remain in Australia often settle in the area. So if you are visiting Newcastle from China and feeling a little homesick, head here for a meal where particularly at weekends you will be surrounded by your countrymen and women chatting away in Mandarin while eating traditional Chinese meals (with chopsticks, of course). If you do decide to try a meal at weekends it is advisable to call ahead, as the Club also hosts functions. Hopefully, this review will fulfill the aim of Trip Advisor in passing on something that only a local may be aware of but appreciated by International travelers, in this case from China but I am sure that others would appreciate something away from the usual suggestions from Travel Agents.
