I sampled their sesame chicken and the pasta; the pasta was salty too, but not quite as much as the chicken. The sesame chicken was saltier than ocean water—no joke. If you're expecting the sesame chicken you would find at other Chinese restaurants, you won't find it here. It tasted like pure soy sauce packed with salt. The chicken was overcooked, and the sauce was overwhelmingly salty as well. It was truly astonishing—saltier than the ocean!
This was my first visit back to Deli Plus since before the COVID-19 pandemic. I was pleased to see the new honey-brown wooden tables, which added a nice touch to the atmosphere. The coffee, as always, remains delicious, and the customer service is still top-notch. However, I did notice that some employees wearing face masks were not using them correctly. For maximum effectiveness, a mask should cover both the nose and mouth. Wearing it under the chin or covering just one of those areas won’t help in preventing the spread of COVID-19. On a positive note, the coffee continues to be consistently excellent, and the new signage really brightens up the space, giving it a fresher, more modern feel.
This deli is perfectly situated for a quick bite, offering a wide variety of options for everyone. The staff is friendly, and the owner is particularly approachable, engaging with nearly every customer. This is exactly how a good business owner should operate.
The prices for the fruit here are way too high. I would much prefer to head over to the supermarket on Grove Street instead. I'm really looking forward to the new supermarket opening upstairs and driving this place out of business.
I was disappointed by my experience at this restaurant. There were no prices displayed on the shelves, so I had no idea what things would cost until I got to the register. For example, coconut water was priced at over $7, which is twice what I'd pay at other stores. I expected a deli to be more affordable than places like Walgreens, but it was even pricier! Additionally, the store had an unpleasant smell of food and the floors were not clean. They also tack on a 3.5% charge for card transactions, which makes me think they might be avoiding taxes by promoting cash payments!
