We unfortunately picked this place over all the rest to celebrate a special occasion. Our meal was brought out in opposite order entree first, soup (the wrong one), salad, then sushi that was ordered as appetiser. I had to awkwardly ask for every item that was supposed to be included in the dinner, and we never even got all of it. 2 out of the 3 waitresses (super weird) that came to our table were unable to answer questions about the menu. The seared tuna sushi roll looked and tasted like the bigger flakes in canned tuna. Worst roll I 've ever had. The fried rice was just rice with maybe 3 flecks of egg in it. We didn 't bother to complain. Just wanted out of there.
Came for a birthday after our favorite spot was unexpectedly closed for Mondays now. Figured this place could be good. And for the most part it is. We started with pork egg rolls and chicken/vegetables tempura. Both are fantastic and the tempura dipping sauce was surprisingly deep in flavor. Definitely recommend! Then we got our soups and salads. The ginger dressing is among the best in Jacksonville. The soup ,however, didn't exactly match the standards of other similar restaurants. The soup was too salty and just tasted like simple chicken broth. Not terrible, just not up to par. Lastly, we got our main course, the teppanyaki! I ordered shrimp w/ fried rice. Sadly none of the meats had sears and if you're a frequent teppanyaki-goer then you know how disappointing that can be. However, the flavor we all know and love was there so I happily finished the shrimp. Now the fried rice is where I took off the most points. There should be a distinct burnt soy sauce flavor but here it just tastes like rice cooker rice mixed with garlic powder. Maybe the grill wasn't hot enough (which might explain the searing issue as well) but the rice was more boiled than fried and thanks to the garlic butter added, it just became heavy. A few bites and it knocked me out of the rest of my meal. I was able to salvage the fried rice thanks to the ginger sauce provided, as it cut through the fattiness. All in all, it was not what I expected in a bad way (teppanyaki/fried rice) and in a good way (appetizers and the salad/sauces). But in the end the staff are great and if you're not a stickler for fried rice then you'll love it.
This used to be my favorite restaurant! I'm not sure if the location is under new ownership, but the prices continue to exceed to a ridiculous level while the quality of the food declines rapidly. Because I used to adore the food I have attempted to go back 2x. I can taste how old the meat they served was, I could not even swallow the meat was so far gone. Normally if a steak is overcooked I would just give it to my pup no way I would even chance the meat they gave me. Last time I mentioned anything negative about the food the manager yelled at me so I choose to not call the restaurant this visit. Between the dead pests this is FL) and the food this restaurant needs a health department visit! Very sad I can no longer enjoy what used to be a fabulous location:
I love Mikado. It's a great little place that deserves way better reviews than it has gotten. Anytime I go here I'm always happy. 9/10
