However, there was a mix-up, and we ended up with peach buffalo wings instead. While the wings were tasty, they didn’t quite match the amazingness of the tenders. We’ve visited this restaurant several times, and every dish has been excellent. I tried the NY steak for the first time, and it was cooked perfectly. We do miss the old cabot cheese mashed potatoes, but all the potato options we've tried here have been great! Our server was very friendly and attentive. As the restaurant got busier, we were checked on less often, but that was completely understandable. I always recommend this place highly and usually have very high expectations. I had a wonderful experience tonight. Parking can be a bit tricky; we parked across the street near some unclear "No Parking" signs. It wasn't clear how far those restrictions went, but there were plenty of cars around, so we felt it was relatively safe.
It was Hoot Night, which was a pleasant surprise, especially considering how many places were closed and the rainy weather. It created a fantastic atmosphere filled with locals and visitors alike. The drinks were enjoyable, although the bartender did forget about us for a bit, which was strange since we were right at the bar. The duck confit was wonderfully seasoned and cooked to perfection, and the Cajun fries were hot and delicious. Overall, the food was impressively prepared and surpassed our expectations—we were anticipating typical pub fare but were pleasantly surprised by the quality. That said, it was a bit on the pricey side, and the bar stools weren't particularly comfortable. The decor was exactly what you would expect from an inn and tavern. All in all, we had a great time.
We arrived at the restaurant on a Saturday at 7 PM with a party of eight—four adults and four kids. We ordered food and drinks by 7:15 PM, which included a pitcher of water for the table, three kids' meals, four small plates, one entrée, and two alcoholic drinks. Unfortunately, nothing arrived. After 30 minutes of waiting, we asked the waitress about our order, especially the water and drinks. She informed us the kitchen was backed up. However, it was confusing because the water doesn’t come from the kitchen, and drinks are served from the bar. Finally, at 7:30 PM, a pitcher of water arrived, along with one basket of bread for our group of eight and one drink. When we inquired about the missing drink, the server explained that she had written it down but forgot what it was and intended to ask us but got sidetracked by our questions. By 8 PM, we noticed a couple at a nearby table also complaining about delays and noticing ketchup on the ceiling above them. Around that time, the three kids' meals finally came out. We had ordered Kraft Mac and Cheese, not realizing it would be pre-packaged. Naturally, the kids asked why it took so long to arrive. The server then informed us that the beer we had ordered was unavailable, so we provided her with two alternative choices. Eventually, at 8:15 PM, three small plates and one entrée showed up. A beer finally came an hour and 15 minutes after the order was placed. We still needed to ask for the final small plate, which arrived shortly after. Feeling frustrated, I asked to speak with the manager to express our dissatisfaction with the service. Here’s how it went: **Me:** "We have been here for an hour and a half and nothing has gone as it should." *(I explained the timeline.)* **Manager:** "Many restaurants in the area are understaffed, and so are we." **Me:** "You’re not understaffed; you’re overbooked. You should know how many staff you have and book tables accordingly. This service is unacceptable." **Manager:** "What do you want me to do?" **Me:** "Nothing. I just want to inform you of what’s happening." **Manager:** "Okay, thanks." *(And he walked away.)* Finally, when we asked for the check, the server came over, smiling and laughing for the first time in two hours. She casually apologized for the wait and wished us a great weekend. To add insult to injury, a 20% gratuity was added to our bill without any notice—no signs, no mention on the menu, nothing. Interestingly, the couple who sat nearby and were white received an apology the first time they complained and eventually left without their food due to the long wait. It felt clear that we were treated differently because we are not white. Please think twice before dining here.
We headed down for dinner at 6 PM and opted for the tavern since the dining room felt a bit too quiet for our taste. The tavern, however, was nearly full as the music was about to start. The night is known as HOOT night, and we were curious about what it would be like. Not being big eaters, I ordered the panko-crusted chicken tenders, while my wife chose a pastrami sandwich. The food was excellent and arrived surprisingly quickly given the crowd. After a few hours of enjoying the live music, we decided to call it a night. HOOT night turned out to be a lot of fun, featuring various musicians playing either solo or with accompaniment. Overall, this place is a hidden gem, and we definitely plan to return.
Fantastic restaurant! I really enjoyed the atmosphere! The staff is very friendly and the prices are reasonable. The outdoor seating is lovely, especially with the live music. We were visiting North Conway and chose this place for dinner. It was an excellent decision if you're in the area!
