Opa Greek - Islip

Opa remains my favorite Greek restaurant. The staff consistently exudes friendliness and is incredibly helpful. Most importantly, the food is outstanding. The gyro meat is fresh and packed with flavor. We always leave feeling full, just like the delicious grape leaves that accompany the cold Greek appetizer. The spreads offered include Taramasalata, a creamy, slightly fishy delight (and my personal favorite), skordalia, a garlicky mashed potato spread, babaganoush, a tangy eggplant spread, and hummus. I'm fairly certain all of these are made in-house. I'm truly grateful that Opa is in our neighborhood!

The appetizers were amazing! Try the zucchini sticks, saginaki cheese, and stuffed mushrooms!! Good service! Solid entrees. We will be back!

My mom decided to order takeout from this restaurant after hearing great reviews, but we were quite disappointed. To start, she ordered lamb skewers but received sliced gyro meat instead, which was quite dry. Additionally, the yogurt dressing was very watery and didn't seem to be made with Greek yogurt. The spinach pie was overly salty and lacked flavor. Finally, the baklava dessert was dry and excessively sweet, and it seemed like there was no butter in the layers of filo at all. Overall, it felt like a crusty, sugary mess. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place.

Ordered a gyro dinner platter to go this time. Side greek salad was simple and sufficient; iceburg, a single hunk of tomato, and feta. The dinner consisted of gyro meat over rice and peas with a pita and tzaziki sauce. Not flavorful, and certainly not worth 20$. SOOOO much rice, so little peas, and nothing else. Really really boring.

My favorite local spot hands down. Best Bronzini I've ever had, and the Greek goddess is a go to for takeout. Thankful to have this down the road.
