Contribuiți la feedbackWe had a similar bad experience as a review below. We saved this restaurant for our last dinner on Isla because we wanted something special and had heard good things about this place. We arrived to an empty restaurant and the server looked shocked to see us and was completely flustered. Thus, we felt unwelcomed. He also looked unkempt and frankly smelled. This was the first bad sign.We were seated and after we've looked at the menu and decided on what to order, it was only then that our server informed us that he didn't have half of the already small menu available. Second bad sign. So, after ordering things we didn't really want to eat, we then were offered drinks. I asked for a Sauvignon Blanc and the server had no idea what I was talking about. He only was aware of white wine or red wine. Very curious for an upscale place. So we asked to see what he had. He brought out two almost empty bottles of wine and said that what was in the bottles was really all he had. Three bad signs. We made the decision to politely retract our order and bid the restaurant a sad goodbye. Don't mess with my wine. We ended up at another place for dinner as we could not waste our last night on this magical island with a bad meal. We ended having a WONDERFUL dinner at a little hole in the wall but dressed up for a fancy dinner. It made for some great memories and we had a fab time. :)
My wife and I decided to venture away from the resort for dinner and chose Mar y Monte based on a Facebook recommendation (islaholics). Much like many other very good restaurants on the island, it's off the beaten path and takes a little hunting to find it. But once you find it, you WILL NOT be disappointed! It is a very nice, veryclean, and well-decorated restaurant. The food was AMAZING! We had the surf&turf trio. Lobster tail, steak, and rabbit. Perfectly cooked and seasoned! We will most definitely return!
The five of us had quite an experience at Mar y Monte last night. The weather here has been incredibly bad so we had the restaurant all to ourselves. The meal was at an easy conversational pace. When the entree arrived, we were surprised to see such an artistic presentation. Then the first bite provoked immediate reaction. Words like: amazing, unbelievable, and incredible. I have never experienced such flavors and levels of intensity. The wine list was very short, but they were fine wines. We will have to visit this place many more times. We were waited on by one of the owners and the chef came out to visit with us about the meal. In summary, this was a wonderful dining experience.
Based on other reviews we made a reservation for our anniversary. A couple of good friends joined us who were also about to have their anniversary. They only had one lobster to serve, which we left to our daughter. I got red snapper which was over cooked. One of our friend's snapper was over cooked as well. My wife had a chicken kabob which I had a bite of and agreed it was really good. The other couple are wine drinkers and requested a bottle of dry white wine. Now if you have the word "sea" in your name, and you primary focus is serving seafood, what "color" of wine should you probably have plenty on hand??? This place could barely scrape up 3 bottles, one of which was sweet. Fortunately we were the only customers all evening competing for this limited supply of wine & lobster. This "only customers" issue brings up the final disappointment. We waited at least an hour to get our food. This place appears to promote itself as an upscale restaurant. Sorry, but our experience won't have us recommending or returning. I hope they can turn this around, but there are too many great restaurants in the island from shockingly inexpensive to fairly high priced (for Isla).
