Sol Mexican Cocina Irvine

This restaurant offers a peaceful and uncrowded atmosphere, perfect for gathering with family and friends. The kitchen's pace was a bit sluggish, even when it came to desserts. While it was manageable since we had time to chat with our loved ones, waiting 30 minutes for desserts and over 2 hours for meals during a quiet period indicates that there is room for improvement.

The restaurant features a lovely ambiance, and the food was outstanding. I ordered the wagyu steak topped with chimichurri, which was absolutely delicious. However, my choice of drink—a variation of an espresso martini—was a bit too heavy on the alcohol, and not in a pleasant way. Additionally, the table I was seated at was not thoroughly cleaned when I arrived, which contributed to my decision to rate the experience as good instead of excellent.

The bar and ambiance are pleasant, and the hostess was friendly. However, the food at this SOL location was disappointing, and the service was merely average. It was a much different experience compared to the SOL in Newport Beach.

We went for their anniversary celebration, and it was anything but a celebration. They offered free guacamole. No live music and nothing special. Our server got one of the orders wrong- brought sweet corn elote instead of sweet potato tacos. No apology. Then he disappeared for 30 minutes near the end of our meal, so we waited for our check for a while and ended paying for parking since we were over our 90 minute validation period. I wanted to use the remaining $10 or so left on my gift card from when I last dined there, over a year ago, but didn’t have time to flag him down to apply the payment. I just gave it to him to keep and left.
