Contribuiți la feedbackIn December 2011 our dream became reality when Beard Papa opened a business in Irvine. I was a little confused as the place said, “Mochilato”. When I saw the Beard Papa's shield on the window, I was there! Beard Papa takes a small section in the Mochilato store. While the branch shows some expensive special items, the unmistakable aroma of Beard Papa's cream dolls reminded us of Vancouver. We made our order with the courtesy staff, but had to wait a bit while they were dealing with an empty or trouble-free casting tank. A bit of “Opening Night Jitters”, maybe? That was a little disappointing in prep and presentation. After our order was filled, they lovingly boxed our selections. Just a few steps away were long wooden tables where we enjoyed our coffee and Beard Papas. We chose some of any kind of puff cover – Original, Éclair, Cookie, Cocoa and Paris Brest. We made half a half with the original vanilla filling and the Special Flavor was chocolate this day. When I sat down to eat a cocoa bowl with chocolate filling and enjoy the freshly baked scent of cream, I was ALMOST back in Vancouver. When I punctured, the chocolate scale was crispy and divine, but the chocolate filling was somewhat too viscous and messy, unlike the Custard I expected. The Vancouver Puff filling was easier to eat without it spraying in any way. When I went home with my puffbox, I tried another method to conquer the soft filling. This time I chose the Éclair Puff with Vanilla filling. I tipped it up with the filling hole and broke a piece of the bowl. Instead of biting them, I simply broke parts of the bowl and immersed them in the filling. This solved the “mess” problem. The Éclair shell is divine and decadent, somehow like a crosser with chocolate above. I'm afraid the vanilla filling fell on my expectation. It seemed to be a depressed version of the Vanilla Custard I first tried in Vancouver.
This was our first time visiting this restaurant and we were very impressed. It is a great spot for desserts. We ordered the cream puffs, both the original and chocolate with vanilla filling, as well as the red bean milk snow - all of which were delicious and a great combination. We enjoyed the fun and friendly atmosphere and will definitely be returning to make it our go-to spot for desserts!
"Alright! The desserts at this restaurant are great, especially the cream puffs. I highly recommend trying the gelato macarons, they did not disappoint! Well done, Beard Papa!"
The cream puffs at this restaurant are expensive, starting at $4 each. If you choose a different filling or topping, the price increases. I spent $26 before tip for 6 cream puffs and received an additional one for free. The vanilla cream could be thicker to prevent it from dripping everywhere after the first bite.
Love this place. They never fail. The amount of cream is amazing, not too sweet either just about right. Cute little store too
