Shapiro's Delicatessen At Ind Airport

I experienced a long wait, some menu items were unavailable, the meat was lukewarm, and it felt quite expensive. All of this at 10 AM was a bit overwhelming for me.

Airports rarely stand out for their dining options, and it’s easy to see why—they're airports, after all. Yes, this place is somewhat pricey due to its location, but for years now, whenever my wife and I travel from Indianapolis, we make it a point to stop by Shapiro's for a couple of sandwiches. We usually get pastrami on rye for me and corned beef on rye for her, along with two servings of potato salad. The bread is always fresh, the sandwiches are generously sized, and the meat is always tender and flavorful. And let's not forget the potato salad—it’s truly the best anywhere, anytime. When we unpack our meals on the plane, we can’t help but notice the envious glances from fellow passengers. Shapiro's definitely makes the airport experience much more enjoyable.

My dad, who is from Indianapolis, always insists that I visit Shapiro's whenever I'm in town. However, their location in the mall leaves much to be desired. My main problem with my sandwich was the uneven distribution of mustard, and the sandwich lacked any real structural integrity. It fell apart almost immediately, so I would have been better off just eating it like a salad from a bowl. And yes, I did eat it almost right after it was made in front of me.

The breakfast bowl was quite disappointing, perhaps the most lackluster breakfast I’ve had. Additionally, they didn’t inquire about my choice of bagel or cheese for the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel. I’m giving it 2 stars since it was at least edible.

I was really disappointed! McDonald's would have been a lot better. I ordered eggs, bacon, and toast, but the eggs were pre-made, the bacon was strange, and the toast wasn’t even toasted. Shapiro's, you can do so much better!
