This is exactly my kind of spot. It's authentic and true to itself. The food is affordable and homemade, served by friendly small business owners who really seem to care. They offer all the classic Mexican dishes. Give it a try if you're open-minded!
I would say this restaurant offers more authentic dishes on the menu compared to many others that claim to be "authentic Mexican."
First impressions: it looks like a small, unassuming spot in a strip mall. The interior is a bit rundown and resembles what you might find in a budget Chinese takeout place. Once inside, we ordered our drinks and perused the menu. They have a great selection of authentic tacos served in double corn tortillas. One of the reviews praised the goat taco, so I decided to give it a shot, even though I've never had goat before. The meat was tender and very flavorful, well-seasoned but bordering on too spicy for my taste—I enjoy heat, but not overwhelming amounts. My husband opted for a couple of tamales filled with pork and cheese, and he claimed they were the best he's ever had! When the waitress brought out our food, she also presented a three-compartment condiment tray. One section contained a green chili sauce, another had a red sauce that was slightly milder, and the third had pickled onion slices mixed with habanero peppers—which were quite spicy! Next, we both ordered what turned out to be deep-fried rolled tacos filled with meat. They were available with either sausage or chicken. My husband chose all chicken, while I opted for two of each kind. The tacos came topped with lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream, and avocado slices. Delicious! The chicken was excellent; when you took a bite, it didn’t pull out in one lump, which was nice. It also wasn’t spicy at all. The sausage taco was filled with ground meat that was tasty and had a slight kick to it, but I preferred the chicken. I also ordered a side of rice, which was a bit mushy but still had good flavor. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal. The best part was that our total bill came to under $20 for both of us, including our sodas. We will definitely be returning!
My go-to taqueria. I love this restaurant. In fact, I really haven't been able to try out the other Mexican restaurants at the intersection, because I'm always afraid they won't live up.Head over, order up a plateful of tacos de lengua, and enjoy.
