Hundwiler Hohe

Very glad of the rest at the top out of the snow and wind. Always popular with walkers. Traditional decor. Had a very tasty venison sausage and good mixed salad. Friendly staff.

My family and some friends from Zurich decided to hike to the Hundwiler Hoehe for the 1. of August, the hike is about 1 2 hours steep hills, however when you get up there is breath taking, stunning view to the Saentis and surrounding areas, the Restaurant with the Garden terrace is beautiful. We made reservations, because of the Holiday and there were so nice to reserve us, a table for 7 outdoors and indoors because of the possible arriving rain storm. Sure enough the rain came and we went inside and all other guests were running for cover and trying to find a seat inside. They really know what service is. Thank you for being so accommodating and pleasant in these stressful situations, especially on a Holiday. We had an amazing time, and an unforgettable experience with our friends. The food was delicious very regional. Thank you

We snowshoe’d up to the mountain house, and the last half of the hike was in fog, blowing snow, and whiteout conditions. We were certainly glad to arrive at the warm hut, with its big 200 year old wood stove and its very traditional Appenzell interior. This house is up at the top of a local hill (1300m+ hill! , so do not expect gourmet cuisine or décor. This is a mountain hut “beiz” – a place for hikers to get food, some warm drinks, some snacks, or a quick shot of schnapps before hitting the trail again. The menu is traditional, local kitchen food (pasta, cheese, wurst, bread,… … think of it as fuel for the journey. The hospitality was fine, and the staff seemed pleased to have visitors on such a snowy day, but we were the only visitors in the place. I can imagine it gets crowded and slow on a busy weekend day. As mentioned, we were up there in snow and fog, so I cannot comment on the view, but the following days when the sun did come out we could see the house from miles away across the valley, …so it must be beautiful. We were grateful to have an interesting (and warm lunch destination at the top of the hill, the hike/snowshoe up is very beautiful (even in the fog and we will gladly go again, but perhaps next time on a sunny summers day.

Ob währschafte Küche, einen Imbiss oder nur ein Durstlöscher; im Gipfelrestaurant Hundwiler Höhe ist man gut bedient. Die Bergwirtschaft liegt auf dem Gipfel der Hundwiler Höhe und bieten einen sensationellen Panoramablick auf Alpstein mit Säntis, Kronberg und viele gerössere und kleinere Gipfel. Man kann von allen Seiten hochwandern. Meine Wanderung führte von Urnäsch im Ausserrodischen nach Appenzell im Innerrodischen.

Schade um den schönen Ort mit phantastischer Sicht. Das Restaurant lohnt den Weg nicht. Um 12.15 h bereits kein Tagesmenu mehr. Die Alternative 'Hörnli mit Gehacktem ' von der Karte gibt es auch nicht keine Hörnli . Die Siedwurst, die zwar schneller als versprochen serviert wurde, war lauwarm. Das Geschnetzelte vom Tagesmenu war sehr gut; mageres, zartes Fleisch. Die Rösti sahen wie zusammengekratzte Resten aus. Nun, es war auch die letzte Portion, die zur Verfügung stand.Wir waren unter der Woche dort. Es war seit vielen Tagen klar, dass sie Sonne scheinen würde. Das Restaurant war nicht voll. Schade.
