Although we rarely have lunch in Spain for some reason we did this day, enjoying a great meal and in fact writing the first TripAdvisor review for Casa Javier. We were back in the area in 2018 and did not hesitate to book dinner at Casa Javier. Once more creative and delicious cuisine. And now in May 2023 we were back to this area once again, staying in nearby Benasque, and yet made it a point of enjoying a Sunday lunch at Casa Javier. Although language precludes us from speaking much to each other it was clear Javier remembered us. We enjoyed another great meal starting with a fresh Caprese salad, risotto, rice with peppers and asparagus and a rabbit stew. These was no question dessert was going to be the mushroom ice-cream, as it had been on our previous two visits. We once again left very satisfied and full after another wonderful Spanish meal. If you are in the area you most definitely should drop in
Went for lunch. Everything we ordered was very tasty especially the red prawns and the pork jaw. Bottle of wine was reasonably priced and we were able to take away what we couldn’t finish which was nice. Met the owner Javier and he was super friendly. Had a long chat a shot of local liquor and made us feel at home. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone who loves local Spanish fare.
Open weekends, will serve other days if reservation made. Great selections, slow food, comfortable setting
Rural slow food restaurant in a tiny town in the pyrenees. Its menu is based on what can be locally sourced. We had an absolutely delicious risotto made with local wild mushrooms and very good lamb. The wine was excellent and very affordable! In fact we bought 3 bottles to take home with us. Nice place for a leisurely meal. About 15-20 min from Castejon de Sos.
A couple of times during our journey through the northeast of Spain we followed a sign up a small local road to a restaurant for some lunch. None excited us until we came upon Casa Javier. What a find! While the casa is an attractive stone building the actual entrance to the restaurant is only so so, but go inside and you will find a lovely small but intimate setting. Although our Spanish is minimal we were welcomed with the menu and a pleasant smile. We are so glad we decided to stay. While the casa is a nice stone building the entrance to the restaurant is only so, so, but upon entering you are in a very lovely small but intimate setting. We started with a most interesting salad a warm goat cheese with truffle oil and rosemary, beautifully presented with homemade orange and carrot marmalade. It was so good we couldn 't imagine how it could be surpassed. But surpassed it was by the best risotto we have ever had. The mushroom risotto with black trumpets was heavenly. The traditional Olla montaneso was very good as well perhaps even excellent as we have not had any others to compare. All accompanied with a bottle of very nice regional red wine Although we did not plan on dessert we were encouraged to try the mushroom ice cream. While not so sure about 'mushroom ' ice cream we decided to give it a try, and again are so glad we did. The chef took us out back to show us the hills from which the mushrooms are gathered. Somewhat surprisingly it was delicious, really delicious. It was only 20 euros for the salad, risotto, ice cream and wine, unbelievably inexpensive for the quality and quantity of food. The mountain pot, with wine 10 euros. As well we purchased a bottle of the marmalade that was available for sale. As we were travelling a distance further we were unable to return for dinner, although had we been staying in the area we certainly would have done so. We can 't say enough about the quality of food and service at Casa Javier. If you are anywhere nearby do yourself a favour and enjoy a meal here.
