The Annie Cafe - Houston

I ordered the pasta, which was served with a dollop of sour cream—seriously, what is happening here? I tried to overlook it since the service was excellent, but I wouldn’t return. The food completely lacked any real flavor or spice. Considering the high prices and stiff competition in the area, The Annie really needs to enhance its offerings for visitors. I visited during the Christmas break while staying with family nearby and frequently returning to Houston. However, I was truly disappointed by the blandness of the food, and I can't recommend this place for dining. It might be suitable for a girls' night out for cocktails, but that’s about it. As someone who has access to a variety of local cuisines in Houston, Austin, and Boulder, this isn’t a place I’d recommend. I ordered the "Almost Famous" cocktail, which was a delightful mix of mezcal, chartreuse, and aperol, a combination that's hard to find. However, the white wine—Chardonnay, which I wouldn’t typically choose—paired with the Mushroom Rigatoni was very dry and seemed like it had been sitting out too long. I’m relieved I didn’t order dessert or an appetizer, as I really doubt anything is fresh here. For these prices, I'd much rather go to Tiny’s instead.

The food was excellent. I highly recommend trying one of the egg Benedict dishes!

The atmosphere is incredibly relaxing, making it a great place for a family dinner. The staff is very friendly.

First time, coming here. The food was okay. We don’t mind spending money on food because we enjoy eating out, but this was just so generic.My husband had the burger and the bottom bun was so soggy.. he has never had a burger with bread that is falling apart because it’s soggy. I had the Scottish salmon and it was nicely cooked along with the purée, but not rave worthy. My daughter had Rigatoni and it was basic.. not flavorful. The place is okay. The service is awful and I have to think that is a reflection of management. Maybe top management is not treating their employees well or overworking them and it shows. Often we would wait for a ver long period of time to get our orders, to get water, new drink orders, and the restaurant was not even full. I would not recommend this place. Just last weekend we spent the same amount of money at a better restaurant in Rice Village with flavorful food and outstanding service. Save your time and go somewhere else with elevated food and wait staff that is happy to help.

The setting was great. High energy atmosphere even at night. Very classy. Everything is good.
