House of Pies - Houston

My favorite place for breakfast (day or night) when I'm in Houston. Friendly staff with great service and great food. Prices are also very reasonable.

Houston landmark and late night icon. Recently cleaned up and updated, but same greasy diner menu and desserts. Outstanding and large list of pies to order to go, so good for parties, holidays, and gifts.

Don't let the name fool you, while they do have some of the best pies in the city the food menu is also really great after a night on the town. The Patty melt is heavenly! And the french silk pie is a must have.

Simply the best pie I've ever had! I had the Strawberry and Rhubarb Pie, perfectly cooked, mild sweetness, such a flakey crust from end to end. Nothing better than this right here!

After a long absence from daily life in Houston, I've been back a lot in the past couple of months due to illness of an elderly parent. In the past 4 weeks, I've been here three times at all different hours day and night. Still one of the best feel good diners out there, the God and pies are like stepping back into 1974...and I like that! Service is coffee shop friendly (meaning you get what you give--for those with service issues--a smile and a polite request goes a long way here. . Eggs any style with a side of Potatoes O'Brien which rock here, along with great fish and chips and chicken fried chicken sandwich. All pies are good--I love the French Blackbottom! It's a classic place...
