Cupcake Kitchen - Houston

Dear diners, I highly advise against ordering food from a dessert-focused establishment. The desserts are the only reason I’m giving this place 2 stars. The cabbage was decent and mildly tender, but that’s where the positives end. The jerk chicken and fried chicken were overly greasy, and the mac and cheese was completely bland— not a hint of salt or pepper to be found. The red beans and rice were dry, lacking any flavor, and somehow gooey at the same time. How does one manage to make red beans and rice dry? Lastly, steer clear of the spaghetti. It’s topped with what seems to be Taco Bell meat over flavorless spaghetti noodles. On a positive note, the cupcakes—both red velvet and banana pudding—were absolutely fantastic, earning a solid 10/10! This place really should just focus on desserts.

I highly recommend avoiding this restaurant! It's overpriced, the food was undercooked, and the customer service was lacking. I ordered two salmon and shrimp bowls, and both had undercooked salmon. I will not be returning.

I've given Cupcake Houston several chances, but I have to say I'm not impressed. The prices are a bit high for what you receive. My biggest concern is the inconsistency in taste. I'm not sure if they have different cooks, but one day the food is delicious, and the next day it's not good at all. The jerk chicken isn't spicy; it's more sweet, and the quality seems to vary based on who's in the kitchen that day. The mac and cheese can be overly sweet and, as mentioned earlier, it lacks consistency—some days it's fantastic, and other days it's just mediocre. The cabbage is different every time I order it, which is surprising; there are usually two different colors and textures. They also tend to go heavy on the vinegar sometimes. The cake was decent, but for $8, I expected a larger slice—what I got was quite small.

We are here in Houston for a vacation weekend. We stopped in for lunch and or the seafood bowl (pasta, corn, boiled egg, potatoes, shrimp, crab patties with a sauce) out of all that, the shrimp and pasta was okay. Everything else needed to be cooked longer and add seasoning. For as long as we were waiting, you would think they were throwing down in the kitchen. I also bought a banana pudding cupcake except that there was no banana pudding flavor. It's just a regular yellow cake mix with whip cream icing and a vanilla wafer on top. It's really dry and bland.... I should've known some was up if you suppose to be a cupcake shop, they would highlight the cupcakes but instead they were sitting on a shelf that was open so basically the cupcakes are drying out. Even more so, it's OK to talk to your customers. On his kiosk, its says the seafood bowl was $20 but the order came up to $38. That's because in store its $25 with the $3.50 cupcake and tax. Smh.... Will not return.

I had the salmon pasta. The pasta was great salmon with salsa and the sides. They gave more than enough food!
