How the mighty have fallen. Rarely being in the Milford area anymore when I found a reason to head that way, I was overcome with desire to hit Carnivores. Showed up to find they had moved. No biggie. Until I found their new location. Now part of a country club golf course thingy we walked into a dark banquet room and were greeted by a lone bartender server. No slick decor, no smell of smoked meats. Instead, I felt like I was Baby; sitting in the corner at the end of the season talent showcase, waiting for Patrick Swayze to come in and grind on me in front of my parents. Menu was similar but not the same. I order my usual. One brisket, one turkey. Unfortunately my usual became my unusual. Roll? Different. Meat? Dry. Portion? Small. Even the delicious French fries were different. I mean, maybe they weren't but they sure seemed it. I felt incredibly out of place. It's likely a smart move on their part having a larger space and potential built in customers. But... my search has yet again begun. Because NOBODY puts baby in the corner.
It's been a few years since I've been here and when they originally opened I rated them 5 stars. I was in the other day and wow has it changed!!! The inner decor was the same (old and out dated. But this rating is on the food) I got burnt ends that were inedible, brisket that was very dry and could only be eaten smothered in the bbq sauce and even then you could still tell the meat was so dry. The pulled pork was moist but had no flavor unless you used...you guessed it more bbq sauce! The best meat I had was the smoked chicken it was moist and had a smokey flavor. The corn bread could probably be used as a door stop diddnt even try it. The fried mac an cheese was the most edible thing and even that changed its thickly breaded and not even cheesey anymore! All in all a waist of $50 and I will not be back. For those still reading this GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! good stuff bbq food truck is better then here!.
Way too smoky inside, everything thing is smoke tainted. Our eyes were watering waiting for food. Brisket was kind of gray no good smoke ring. In general not the best spot in Mass for BBQ.
This place just goes to show you that just going by Yelp ratings when looking for food can often times be misleading. I've constantly been looking for good BBQ in the Central MA area and have been let down time and time again. I saw this place but since it had lower ratings than the other places, I didn't really plan on going out of my way to check it out. I ended up coming here on a whim to grab lunch on a half day at work and was really pleasantly surprised. I got the beef brisket sandwich. I'll admit the bread was dry but when you add on one of the few BBQ sauces they have available, it really helps combat that. The brisket is fatty and delicious. Way better than brisket I've had in the area. I also got a fried mac cheese. The fried batter on the outside adds a nice texture to the gooey and delicious mac and cheese. My only regret was that instead of the sandwich, I didn't get a platter of brisket. The service was great and my only slight concern is that it seems like they cook with the smoker and the doors open. I was only in there for like 10 minutes and my clothes smelled like BBQ smoke for days afterwards. So just make sure you wear something you're willing to wash afterwards!
