We have consistently come to moku kitchen when we visit oahu, and have enjoyed it in past. Last night we sang with friends who had not experienced moku. the first encounter was the strange check-in process that I remembered our last visit, but perhaps thought it would be back in the traditional mode after a time, the administration should know that there is really going out, and there is no obvious advantage, except perhaps, to stop the sitting process. the menu looked pretty good until I noticed that our friend tried to find out which items were gluten-free (no guide or mark on the menu) we thought ok, server won't know true! we also had a clam allergy at the table, and the situation was the same, all kinds of communication back and forth necessary to pass. the server did all this very well, I could add. I would think that a monkeypod restaurant would have a better deal with diet issues like this, especially the gluten-free issue that is quite common. the monkeypod mai tai was fabulous, like the maize-khowder! the general consensus about eating was that it was very good, with taking out the fish tacos that were bland ( strange, because they was a favorite last time that we here dined) once again, want to mention that the server were great the cache that affect my assessment and reviews are process elements that could easily be fixed! we can dinate at moku kitchen and hope for improvement!
All right. nice big stand. friendly and friendly server. table got no ka oi drink, as we remembered how delicious they were at merriman. not good. He usually tasted like a screwdriver. not worth the $14. after that I stopped drinking, but if it had been good, we would probably have ordered three. charcuterie board was just okay. it needed much more brot (ordered more for $2) and the onion dip was terrible. there was only something special. cocosnut soup was excellent. fish and chips were good. fajitas were wonderful. Fish sandwich hardly had a torf, and a tiny scrap should have at least a full portion. no other offer. gelato and sherbets were good. coffee ordered and needed to ask for fillings with more cream and sugar for table. we stayed a long time to chat as there were other open tables and that was worth the experience. oddly we had to start our order at the reception and give our credit cards. after one, we thought that maybe others had dropped the back and kicked out so that this was gone to have control over it. no biggie after we found out. parking was quite easy and with her discounted ticket I felt it was worth the $9.
Not a fan of waiting in line then ordering first and finding my own table when it’s busy. What’s the point of a reservation? Had to take a table that wasn’t clean yet, then we ordered more at the table anyway. Seems like it saves maybe a couple minutes for the wait staff at the expense of my time, and waiting in line, and finding a dirty table.
Food was not as good as it was a few years ago. Service sucked, I don't expect constant vigilance by my waiter/waitress but I do expect some attention. Dishes had to be asked to be removed from table, had to constantly ask for assistance setting the waitress on the side talking while other servers are busy can be annoying Just a poor service experience.
