Medicis Honolulu Music Jazz

Aloha! I attended my first show on Saturday night to watch and listen to Johnny Valentine. It was a great little club, and the show included a delicious buffet meal with plenty of food to enjoy. The bar was convenient and reasonably priced. I'm definitely planning to return, even though I'm coming all the way from the west side!

The venue is cozy, allowing you to see and interact with the musician you came to see. However, the food experience brought my rating down from 5 to 4 stars. Firstly, the food was served on paper plates, which was disappointing. The portion sizes were inconsistent; some of our friends received only a few spoonfuls of soup, more appropriate for a child. The potatoes appeared well-cooked for some, but mine were burnt on top and inedible. I plan to eat before coming here next time. I'm not sure if they considered the different flavors when planning their four-course meal, but it didn't sit well with my stomach.

Medici's seems to be stuck in the past. They continue to require healthy patrons to wear masks when not eating. We will not support businesses that impose such requirements on healthy individuals. That's that.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. It has a charming and mature atmosphere, the jazz performances are fantastic, and the sound system is excellent.

Medici's has a unique charm, as the proceeds from both their dinner and shows benefit the Manoa School of Music and The Arts, located downstairs. The husband-and-wife duo, Tim and Carolyn Stanton, run the establishment together—Tim manages the restaurant and performances, while Carolyn oversees the music school. While waiting for the show to begin, other guests playfully encouraged me to come for the entertainment and just enjoy the food. Tim and his staff certainly make a concerted effort to deliver a great dining experience. The food was enjoyable, although served on paper plates, while the silverware was actually metal. It was my first time visiting since their recent reopening due to the pandemic, and they were still adapting with some new hires. My tablemates ordered drinks, but the glasses varied in size each time they were served. I appreciate Tim taking the time to mingle with patrons at each table and express his gratitude for their support. Overall, despite some minor hiccups, the shows they present are exceptional, and the funds generated go towards a truly wonderful school.
