Izakaya Uosan - Honolulu

Was a little skeptical about this place from reading reviews but I had a great experience. Food was super good and prices were clear

Tried the signature house dish, uni with egg and truffle butter on rice excellent; the grilled fresh unagi again, excellent; toro and hamachi nigiri, hamachi collar and karaage all very good. Only drawback was the menus were hard to understand

Uni. Truffle. Butter. Rice. If you stop by Uosan, you definitely have to try this seemingly simple, yet exquisitely refined dish! The savory flavors, soft rice, and the melt-in-your-mouth texture of the uni are to die for--one taste and you'll feel as though you've arrived in gastronomic heaven! Pair that with friendly staff and a cozy ambiance, and you've got yourself a solid place to plan an outing with friends, or a date night for those itching for quality Japanese food.

The sushi is so so so fresh. The uni York rice is fantastic and you won't regret to have a dinner there.

I absolutely love the steamed uni! The foie gras with the rich sauce is also excellent; the goose liver is cooked perfectly, and I really enjoy it. The uni truffle rice is delicious as well, but I personally find the truffle aroma to be a bit overpowering, which makes it hard for me to appreciate the taste of the uni. This was my first time trying uni, so I decided to order the steamed uni to truly savor its flavor, and it ended up being my favorite dish this time around. I prefer lighter flavors; some of the food in Hawaii tends to be a bit too salty for my taste, just as a heads up.
