Gen Korean Bbq House - Honolulu

We were a group of eight with three servers, so I’m not sure why the service was lacking. I've visited this restaurant many times before, and this is the first instance of poor service I've encountered. The food is really good, and I will return, but if I end up with the same servers, I might request to be seated elsewhere or consider leaving. Given the restaurant's size, I shouldn't have to deal with such issues. Prices are on the higher side, so I expect better service. None of the servers provided any explanation for the delays, which was disappointing.

The menu featured over 30 types of proteins, including beef, pork, chicken, squid, and shrimp, along with options like popcorn chicken, fried calamari rings, japchae noodles, rice cakes, tofu soup, banchan, and for dessert—hodek, which is a round fried sweet mochi pancake filled with a flavorful yet not overly sweet cinnamon peanut mixture. It was delicious! Our top picks were the sweet soy honey beef belly, kalbi ribs, ox intestine, and premium steak. Everything was quite tasty, with some items standing out more than others. Overall, there was a much larger selection compared to Sikdorak BBQ, all at a similar price point. We arrived at 4:40 PM and were seated immediately, with no wait time at all. Every staff member was friendly, helpful, and wore a smile throughout our meal.

I always have a fantastic experience at this place. I have nothing negative to say about my time spent here.

Very disappointing experience. I don’t usually leave reviews, but wow this was bad. The waiter rarely checked in on us, and when he did it was rushed and literally “do you want more?” What kind of service is that? We ordered sweet spicy fried chicken plate and it came out cold. We asked for more kimchi, he never brought it, never refilled my water cup. This is basic stuff. The dirty grill was left burning/smoking for far too long, multiple times, I was trying to eat with the burning smoke in my face. For the majority of our meal they left the dirty plates that the raw meat came on just sitting on our table. I took a photo because finally, someone picks them up but just sets them on the two dirty tables next to us. They start stock piling all the customers dirty dishes in this section. Gross, why not take them to the back if you’re already holding them?I swear we are not picky people, but when we just need the necessities like water refill to order more food… This wasn’t worth the money and not the Gen experience we are used to.
