Great little new specialty market. Makes me hungry each time I pass by.
There is new deli delicatessen, gourmet food store on Yelp. It was a State holiday today I thought it'll be a perfect time to check out Cacio Vino by Mediterraneo. I read Robert O's review and mentioned it was part of the Mediterraneo Italian restaurant (MIR . I knew where it was and it's the white and orange looking building right after MIR (Orange green bldg . The owner took over the former dentist office right next door and both properties have the same landowner. There was an unmetered parking space right in front so I lucked out and street parking was free anyways today due to the State holiday. Cacio Vino (Cheese Wine by Mediterraneo also serve lunch and at night it's a wine bar. You can purchase wine and have it with your meal at either establishments. They have selection of Italian beer, Prosecco, liquors wine per their website. Fabrizio, owner, brought back chef Mauro who used to worked under him for 23 years but left to worked for the Four Season Hotels on the other islands before he returning back. He's the chef for Casio Vino and makes the house made pasta, cheese, sauces for Mediterraneo Italian Restaurant. This side is the production side. Chef Mauro was also my great server and Chef. Both are Italian and from Italy! Cacio Vino just opened less than a week ago on Tuesday, 01/14/20! You can purchase ingredients or pre-made gourmet food to go. The deli store is serving lunch if you prefer to dine there. There are several tables in front as you enter and few tables in the back area. They sell wine, array of biscotti, freshly made onion or rosemary focaccia baguette breads, pasta pasta sauce. Italian deli of cheese, 3 different types of lasagnas, onion potato frittata, seafood pasta salad, olive antipasto, roasted pork shank, Apple custard Italian cake, pizza bread, charcuterie, desserts, jams more. At night it's a wine bar and they serve dinner as well. The owner, Fabrizio stopped by while I was having my lunch and chatted with me. He was very personable and nice and shared with me about his restaurants. Heard from the chef that he doesn't do the cooking anymore but I know he is busy working on the renovation. He wants to add more seating for the outside. The bean-prosciutto soup was delicious and the portion was generous with a lot of beans and goodness. I also got the Abbacchino (Lamb chop Milanese. I usually don't order lamb but liked how it was prepared, breaded and fried. It was tender and juicy on the inside without the gamey taste. Surprised it came with house fries but I don't mind since I always like french fries and it was seasoned. I do like tiramisu and they do have a chocolate lava cake but I was pretty full by then but decided to take home some breads, and biscotti which was house made. I got freshly made baguette and onion focaccia which Chef Mauro suggested and the focaccia was indeed tasty and so soft. They have two type of biscottis. Crunchy hard type and crusty and softer on the inside for coffee dunking. I bought the Cantucci -Marsala wine almond one. Cacio Vino by Mediterraneo Mediterraneo Italian Restaurant are right next door to each other and the entrance is on King Street just passed Hauoli St. Just remember it's directly across the Gyotaku restaurant! Thanks for reading my review
Happy to see Medetaranio expanding into the lunch market with this new restaurant right next door! Everything is authentic from the house made pasta, the sauces, and the cheese! Yes, Chef Mauro literally makes his own Italian cheese! I highly recommend the mussels pasta, but you can't go wrong with the lasagna or seafood salad. The chef provides dried pasta and jarred sauces to go so you can cook food like a classically trained chef at home.
