I've tried it: shredded burdock appetiser (good) sweet roll from Japanese menu (very good! has mango, avocado and some crispy inside). veggie roasted dumplings (good but outer piece was quite thick and inside everything green would have preferred to mix it) cold tofu dishes in delicious sauce with seaweed pieces (big) tofu in a suppe with vegetables (not so good, suppe lacked taste) pad Thai style noodles (ok) roasted rice with lunch I liked the suppe and tee. high air conditioning. updated by previous review on 2021 06 09
The food selection at this restaurant is fantastic, with a wide variety of vegetarian options as well as choices for those who love spicy food. They offer everything from appetizers to mains to noodles to rice dishes to hot pot. Unfortunately, the service is lacking in manners and smiles, as is common in many restaurants in Hong Kong. However, if you smile at the staff, they will smile back at you.
The owner of this chain of restaurants is very kind, but unfortunately lacks an understanding of veganism. The menu may list some dishes as vegan, but this seems to be more of a coincidence than intentional. Be wary of their accuracy in listing egg and dairy content in dishes. Just because a dish is not labeled with an egg symbol does not guarantee it is egg-free, as they may use ingredients like mock eggs. Additionally, there may not be strict measures in place in the kitchen to prevent cross-contamination of non-vegan ingredients. So, vegan diners should exercise caution when dining here.
Gaia is a large and busy restaurant with a diverse menu that includes a good selection of vegan options. However, be cautious when ordering as the menu does not specify which items are vegan and the staff may not be very helpful. The food at Gaia is good, but not outstanding. I was more impressed by the presentation than the taste. During our first visit, we tried Japanese-style dishes like veggie sashimi and while they looked great, the taste was not as great. We mostly stuck to noodle dishes and soup afterwards, occasionally ordering dumplings. The food was consistently good, but not extraordinary. The menu has a lot of mock meats, which we tried to avoid. Despite the food not being exceptional, my wife and I frequented the restaurant often between 3pm and 5pm when all dishes were half price, making it a good value for money during those hours.
Have had dinner here twice. Decor is nice, food not bad in general, just too many mock meats. They do offer set dinners where you can pick your combination of select starters, soups, and main courses at a lower price; but I suggest ordering a la carte instead, you will have much better choices. Also, watch out for traces of eggs and dairy ingredients as they might not necessarily be marked. Once I ordered a fried rice, the menu didn't say anything about eggs and it came with tiny bits of scrambled eggs all over which was impossible to be picked out. Just confirm with the staff when ordering.
