Contribuiți la feedbackPrior to coming to Homer, I found this place online and I immediately decided I had to make a visit when I arrived. And so I did! Note that this place is just a little takeout window so Carryout food only. The menu is decently sized and the guy who took my order was nice. I got the Fish sandwich with fries, and let me tell ya. I’ve had a ton of fish sandwiches, but this one has to be probably my second favorite one I’ve ever had so far!! The fish was SUPER crispy, seasoned incredibly well, and had great taste! Oh and their fries… Those were mouth-watering good… Seriously some of the best ones I got on this trip to Alaska. Overall, if you make it out to Homer, you HAVE to stop by this place if you’re in the market for a fish sandwich. Definitely one of the best ones I’ve had so far!
Fried halibut with fries and small coleslaw (3pc $25, 5pc $35): delicious and expertly cooked. This cash-only place doesn't offer much variety, but you come here for fried fish and it doesn't get much better than this. Eating on the spit means you're likely paying extra for the convenience of a touristy spot. That being said, the prices are reasonable. A 3 piece meal will satiate most appetites, and a 5 piece should take care of the hungriest in your group. The halibut is fresh and as others have said incredibly well fried. About 10min after our order, we got crispy, not-greasy halibut that was nicely seasoned. They give just the right amount of tartar sauce, which if I had to give a critique it could use with some more dill or flavorful pickles as it is a little bland. The fries: perfect, no notes. Service is friendly enough and speedy. One note bring your own drinks if you don't want to buy bottled water or coke.
I can't remember if I've ever had better fish and chips in my life, so I will personally crown Ak. Fish Fryers as the best. The option to bring your catch and have them fry it up just has to solidify this stance of mine. We're from out of town and I'm no fisherman, so we ordered from their menu. On this particular day they also offered cod but we went for halibut because this is Homer and it felt right to do so. We started with the halibut chowder. The balanced flavors of clean ocean fish with freshly ground black pepper in their creamy chowder base just worked, I’m glad we didn’t skip it. Then the halibut fish and chips. They don’t do the normal beer battered coating as you can tell by the picture. Instead, the fish is enveloped in a ever crispy crust that adheres perfectly and is not too salty and does not retain excess oil. The fish itself was obviously fresh caught. Tender and flaky, not mushy like more pedestrian fare. Combined with the well seasoned and crispy fries and delicious homemade slaw and tartar sauce, this meal was for us, perfection. If this wasn’t enough, the prices were more than fair and the couple who run the place and fry your meal are warm and inviting. The kind of people I could easily talk to for hours if they weren’t trying to run a business. There are other good places to eat in Homer, but if you do find yourself in this great little town, you’d be amiss in not stopping by Ak. Fish Fryers and grabbing a delicious bite to eat! -Matt Celeste
This place is wicked good. We got the 5 piece fried halibut and fries, and it’s legitimately the best fish, fried or grilled, that we’ve had in Alaska. It wasn’t too crispy, and the fish was perfectly seasoned and still moist inside, positively bursting with flavor. We tried nearly all the restaurants and food carts in Homer’s Spit, and no other fish dish even came close. Definitely worth a stop, I’ve never seen my family fight for scraps from the container like this before! The only thing is that they’re cash only, so make sure to bring some with you when you visit.
This place was a little hard to find, but I am very glad we did. There is no inside seating but definitely don't let that stop you from eating here. The halibut was excellent, maybe the best we've had in Homer. I asked about cocktail sauce as only tarter was listed on the menu. They said that they did not generally have it. By the time we got our food, they had whipped up some for me. Large portions for the cost, and super fresh. Strongly recommend!
