Steak 'n Shake - Hiram

The restaurant has a classic diner vibe and serves delicious food. I'm a huge fan of their Fresco Melt cheese fries! They offer thin steak burgers and a wide variety of milkshakes. However, I've noticed that the service has changed significantly over the years. Instead of traditional wait staff, you now place your orders at a kiosk by the front door for both dine-in and takeout.

From my seat, I could see into the kitchen, and it was concerning to notice a buildup of old food on the countertops and appliances. I had hoped for a better visit, but unfortunately, my impression worsened. While the overall cleanliness of the establishment seems to have improved, the service was virtually nonexistent, as it seemed that staff were no longer required. There were no waitstaff or counter staff. The atmosphere no longer resembles that of a traditional Steak 'n Shake; they've switched to a kiosk ordering system and self-serve drinks, with only kitchen staff present. Plastic utensils were provided in open containers instead of being individually wrapped, which felt unappetizing. On a positive note, the food has improved, and I had no complaints in that regard.

I was really let down. All the locations in my area have closed, so I was excited to find this one. First, I have to say the service was excellent! The staff was polite and quick. However, the food was a huge disappointment. By the time I got to Thornton Rd, the bread was already crispy. I'm not joking. The meat tasted like those bean burgers they served at Osborne High School. On the bright side, my drink was strong, but overall, it was a sad experience.

This restaurant has by far the best customer service and cleaner than any fast food restaurant I've experienced since COVID started. I was blown away with how the team works together at the busy lunch time hours. The rest of the industry can learn howthings should be done by this group. Congratulations on a job well done with good food too!

We had a couple of burgers, and they were good. It seems that the food has stayed consistent. The dine-in experience, post-pandemic, was really a let down. The old school diner atmosphere has always been a big part of the Steak n Shakeexperience. This location was dark and quiet. The kitchen is now behind a wall, and there is no table service. They had put somepicnic tables in the parking lot so we opted for that. If you just want something to eat, it works for that. If you are lookingfor the experience, at least at this location you will be disappointed.
