The Vegan Shop - Hilo

I wasn’t at Hilo long and only had the Pho, which was fabulous. Friendly staff.

I was very excited about trying this place, since I absolutely love Vietnamese food. Everyone was super nice when we entered the restaurant. We ordered spring rolls, eggless patties, Broken Rice plate a bao. The food was brought out to us, but it was al cold. No one in the previous reviews stated that the food was cold. It looks like they precook everything which is fine but nothing was reheated. We were really disappointed.

Arrived here a little before close and they weren’t going to cook anything fresh, but they went out of their way to get us a soy curl dish and steamed rice that was very good.

The restaurant offers a lunch counter with pre-cooked options for combination plates, as well as a cook-to-order menu. When I arrived late for lunch, only three items were left. Although I can't remember what they were, all of them were delicious. Their protein options are soy-based rather than gluten-based, though some dishes may contain soy sauce and are not entirely gluten-free. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the seating area is large and spacious.

On an island with not many options, this was such a nice find for us. Wonderful friendly owner, lots of yummy options. I took some Bao buns as a takeaway and ate them with my Vietnamese friend who said they were great! She is also a massive foodie, so that is a big testament to the quality and flavour of the food. I would go here again and again!
